... and apparently selling their training ground, on the cheap, to Wycombe.

They have a Class 1 academy which will go, it's been their biggest asset in recent years.

Football is on a real downward spiral.

This is why I'm not against our club being self sustaining! If that means we are mid table in this league for thr foreseeable than fair enough.

It appears the gap between the top and everyone else is going to grow, but it also look like the teams around us are going to be in trouble so a team who is financially sound will eventually be able to rise?

Quick disclaimer I know nowt about finances never mind football finances so I might be no where near in my thinking!

My understanding is they have a Chinese owner who got fined for cutting corners and has now chucked his toys out the pram. They need rid of his asap.

Correct, a dodgy Chinese Donald and a dodgy Russian Methven before that ...

... the new stadium is on out of town wastelands and the club becoming unsaleable.

I was there for the Jack Clarke goal which landed on my birthday.

I drove there from the Cotswolds, on my own, and parked near the ground. I called the lads, who were in a town centre boozer, and rang for a taxi so I could celebrate my birthday with them. But the Sunderland people, in town, had booked all the taxis to get to the stadium. I tried buses but there were none, tried hitching a lift but no one stopped.

So I walked back to the ground and scammed into their hotel bar. I was sure I'd meet someone I knew as I've always done over the last 50 years. Not a sausage, so I sat there, on my birthday, on my own amongst lifeless Reading fans moping around the bar whinging about the price of a pint ...

... football used to be about hordes of blokes fanatically supporting their hometown club and forgetting reality once a week.

Building stadiums, without a heart, in the middle of nowhere are where we are ... nowhere.

Well said Smug. I've only been there once, which was enough for me. I've never had the urge to return.

Saint Mary's at Southampton is almost as bad, but I keep going back there because it is only half an hour up the road from where I live. <cool>

This is exactly why I support KLD and the model, they don't get everything right but this joker of an owner is just off the scale

Be very careful what you wish for...

That's incredibly sad and, I agree with you, makes me support KLD all the more.

Hope we cling onto the bloke, he's far above most other club owners.

Reading have spent over £50m on that facility over the last 9 years and the owner is looking for a quick fire sale to Wycombe Wanderers for £22m
    - probably to pay to himself and let the club go under.

More money in the game than ever, and more clubs than ever struggling. Similar to life for everyone under recent governments I guess.
