What action do you think should be taken if there is trouble [racist or otherwise] toward our players in Ukraine or Poland? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18192375 How would you react, for example, if one or more of our black players were subject to such hateful racist abuse that Roy Hodgeson called the England players from the pitch and refused to continue the game?
I don't think any action should be taken, the players are responsible and mature enough to know what to expect, they should just ignore it, Racism is part and parcel of the eastern european game.
That is what Sol Campbell reckons!! He is warning fans not to go !! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18192375
Nothing should be done to any team members from any nation that doesn't feel comfortable enough to continue. UEFA will come down like a ton of bricks on the host national in question however, as it should do
Theo Walcott's family are also not making the trip. It'll be the first international match (that features Theo) they've not attended: http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/football/899398-theo-walcott-family-will-boycott-euro-2012-over-racism-concerns
Yid Vicious - I was just merging the two identical threads, sorry I think your post just got lost in cyber space in case your wondering.
"Official government advice says: 'Foreign nationals have been victims of violent crime in Kiev and other major cities in recent years. In some cases attacks have been racially motivated. 'Travellers of Asian or Afro-Caribbean descent and individuals from religious minorities should take extra care." Why is the tournament being hosted there, again?
It is important to give smaller nations a taste of international tournaments, just like it is important to give smaller clubs a taste of European football
Not if they're totally unfit to host them. If fans of particular ethnic origins are being warned not to go and images are surfacing of hundreds of Ukrainian fans chanting Sieg Heil and saluting openly in a stadium, Asian students getting battered in the stands and black fans and players getting subjected to monkey chants, something is wrong. To give these countries such prestigious tournaments is defending the totally indefencible. Just like giving the World Cup to a homophobic country like Qatar.
Agree completely with what you say. UEFA claimed it was an opportunity for the host nations to tackle issues such as racism. Really this is ridiculous I can understand tackling poverty as in South Africa and giving other nations a chance. But if there is a risk of racism or violence no chances should be taken. You can't gamble that a country may tackle its problems in time for the tournament if people may be subjected to this behaviour if the hosts fail to reach these targets.
If their fans are consistently racist and/or violent in European matches, yes. Besides that's totally different to allowing them to host a tournament when their domestic fans are so out of control and loathsome. As I said in my first post which got lost in the Matrix, given that their fans tend to clean up their act for European games in order to avoid their club getting too many fines, I'd expect similar for the Euros and far greater numbers of policing at and around the stadium will help tackle trouble early. However their's still a very real risk of it going very wrong, the fact that people are already saying they don't feel safe going is enough to realise what an awful idea this was.
Without these nations there would be no Europa League and no European adventures for the likes of Shamrock, Shakatak and Spurs
Try not to be a twat all your life and remember you were 2 minutes away from being in the same competition And Shaktar are Ukrainian
