So what are we gonna do about Bob d mat, reckon he is in with a shout of getting the nod ?
I think if he secures top four he could be worth a shot and the FA cup as well would be nice and would help his chances.Do we really need the Charlie big potatoes name when we have in place a guy who is doing a great job turning it round after what was turning into a fukin disaster.....thoughts ???

I can't see how anyone could have done a better job than RDM. Results, spirits, effort all improved. This reflects extremely badly on those sulky whingers who were the cause of our plight, and I sincerely hope every one of them gets the shaft at seasons end. Thanks for your great years, taxis outside..
Someone else said that AVB had a plan to flick the old guard, and their subsequent petulant attitude was the cause of our problems. I think this is largely true. He did not help himself with his attitude, and that's a shame, because as a manager I think he's exceptional when he has his own players. But he was hung out to dry by our gutless management team, and they should hang their heads in shame. RDM has had it easier. No long term makeover, no rebuilding the team, just pick up the pieces and go forward. He has done this brilliantly, and I can't see why he couldn't take on the other jobs as well next year i.e., get rid of the **** heads and bring in some young talent. What we really lack is brilliance, a la Robben, Van Persie , Aguero, Tevez We need at least 2 brilliant players for CFC to really make a big step up. Mata and Ramires are there, Torres and Luiz on the rise, Romeu too. A very strong basis on which to build. And some really great youth team kids. Unless we get Jose or Guardiola, and I'm not at all convinced he's the answer, then RDM will do me.What we need more than ever is to get rid of the instant gratification syndrome, and plan and build for the future.

    Give it to him.

An old boy in charge who has got the best out of a group who where fractured, divided and lost...a no brainer to me.

If he does get it he'll be the one who calls the shots on who stays and goes, so it'll will be his team going forward.

AVB did have the task of the overhaul, but he ****ed it up by alienating everyone with his power trip rather than MANAGING them until the end of the season, and then moving them on with a "thanks lads, all the best"

He is a Chelsea man through & through and a decent honest man. He has had a reasonable managerial caeer so far but far more importantly the players like him and he commands respect and the players are doing it for him so why go for another expensive failure.

    Give him a shot :D

I have some doubts about his tactical ability. I don't recall us ever stepping out of our 4-2-3-1 with him in charge but you might argue we haven't needed to.

He has done an excellent job so far though, especially when you consider where we were when he took over.

    YES from me.

Anyone who mauls the Spuds 5-1 at Wembley gets a free pass to stardom from me <cool>.

Let him and Eddie have it for a season, if after that they've done poorly we can let them go without the huge fee involved. Don't sign some power hungry egotist for £20m and pay another £20m to sack him <grr>

    Exactly that.

The majority of our losses last year were built on paying Carlo out and the fee to sign AVB<yikes>

    Belting sig by the way:)

    Agreed.

RDM would represent a cheap option, no paying off another club etc. He understands the English game, speaks the language, is a club legend and has already restored pride in what was looking like a disaster of a season 2 months ago.

Plus the players clearly respect him and the fans will give him more grace than a new face. He is also an absolute gent and a good front for the club (certainly more so than AVB).

If Jose wants to come back I'd have to have a hard think but him aside...why not. If he secures a trophy it is pretty much a definite. Top 4 would be a bonus. The position we were in, you can't judge his tenure on top 4. We'd pretty much ****ed that up under AVB

Definitely, I was all for giving AVB a shot but he went about this season in completely the wrong manner and in hindsight we would've ended up with absolute F A this season AND out of the top four. What Robby has done is remarkable!

Why thank you , back at you!

Lets just hope this season is more Hiddink then Grant. Losing 2 finals and the league on the final day was a pretty hard pill to swallow in 08. Plus we also lost the fa youth cup final that year to if memory serves and we're back in that again this year.

I don't know why any of you lot have any sympathy towards Andre Villas Boas. What a pathetic manager he was/is.

With an ego tantamount to Mourinho's, he was always going to fail because he's not even on the same planet as Mourinho. His complete lack of respect for some of your greatest players - Cole, Lampard, Drogba for starters, was his downfall. The same 3 players (although a great team effort) stood out massively in the Barca games, Lampard for me the pick of the bunch with those absolutely world class passes which lead to two of your 3 goals. Ashley Cole has rammed it down AVB's throat, never mind left back, the guy could be the best defender in the world full stop. He's immense at the minute.

I'd feel absolutely no sympathy for the man who was "trying to overhaul the squad", bullsh!t, he was not good enough.

I think the big concern for me is that if he does give it to RDM, then he would find it very easy to give him the sack if a few results didn't go well or he tried to do different things with the team.

At some point (and in the right manner), we will need to bring players through and let some of the outstanding "old boys" move on. AVB tried to do it (badly), but we need to do a fair bit of remodelling the team if we want to be challenging for everything, every year. We can't keep relying on the same few or just buying well known names. It's been great that we've got Cahill, Luiz, Ramieries and Mata, and there are some signs that a few of the youngsters will be able to cut it (Romeu & Bertrand to name just a couple), but there is only a certain amount of time for Drogba, Terry & Lampard (and even Cole) to play at the levels they've managed to maintain.

My concern is that if they are slowly withdrawn, we may see some stroppyness/back-room antics that will disrupt the team in the long-term. No-one should think themselves bigger than the team and (although I hate to admit it), Ferguson has shown how to deal with those situations and still keep winning things. Changes take time and patience.

Last night was amazing, but even more important to know that there is some serious work/thought to go in during the Summer.

If it was a "well-known" manager (Pepe G type character). then even Roman might have to accept a run of bad results and give him the time to rebuild for the future.
Anyway, no thread/comment would be complete today without mentioning that c0ck Geoff Shreeves. What an ar$e!

His strategy got you a win against Barcelona, The spirit he installed helped you to a draw at Camp Nou despite losing a man.

Giving Roberto a longer contract shouldn't even be debated.
