Raynor though they should have won

Rotherham United’s Assistant Manager Paul Raynor was pleased with the way his side responded during today’s 0-0 draw with Preston North End following a shaky start, and believes the Millers were unlucky not to win.

New York Stadium’s first ever third tier game resulted in a stalemate despite both teams pushing for the decisive goal. And after a steady start that saw the opposition enjoy the lion’s share of possession, the Millers reacted well to take hold of the encounter.

“We were a bit slow out of the blocks,” Raynor exclusively told Millers Player. “We warned the boys that we didn’t want it to be a case of ‘after the Lord Mayor’s show’ with the furore that surrounded it and we seemed a little bit on the back foot against an organised Preston outfit but we came back into it and in the second half really imposed ourselves on the game and were unlucky not to win.”

Former North End defender Craig Morgan collected the sponsor’s man of the match in the game which saw the home side get their first clean sheet and look the most likely to score in the second period.

“We were disappointed with the way we conceded the goals at Crewe and the same against Sheffield Wednesday and it happens but to get a clean sheet gives you a good starting block. In that first period we never really affected the game as we can. Arnason and Morgan did a great job dealing with Kevin (Davies) and it’s just a shame we couldn’t find the finishing touch at the other end.”
