We did but are we going to have this bollox with players wanting to go to metropolis every time we have a fkn blip
Exactly. Maxi, Meireles and Suarez in the second half of the season with Dalglish. They were unstoppable, sadly Downing and Henderson replaced them....
That was madness. Same with Carroll replacing Kuyt. When we had ---Kuyt--Suarez -----Gerrard----- ---Maxi-----Meireles ------Lucas------ We were killing teams!
Henderson is 22. Meireles is 29. Why are you comparing? It's like the muppets who whined that Luicas at 22 wasn't as good as Alonso when he was 28. Jesus ****ing H. Christ! The older players had to be replaced. We could've relied on them last season after they got the form of 2nd under Kenny but that would be a pointless season out of Kenny's three year rebuilding plan. Hard miles have to be done in rebuilding so better to get them out of the way early. And early on it was going very well, unlike now. Maybe we'd have even gotten 4th with Maxi and Kuyt but that stilll wouldn't have kept Weasel Eyes happy because 4th didn't get CL qualification. So really once 3rd wasn't possible there was very little to play for in the league except injuries to keep players out of the cup games. 4th or 17th, only a dumbass would insist on playing for nothing so all this "Boohoo, we came 8th" is lame and stupid. We didn't get top 3 but we won silverware, with Downing as MotM. What were you saying about Lucas at 22? That is a lesson a lot of muppets still haven't learned, even as they voted Lucas Player of the Year. It's pathetic to judge on half-seasons, which is exactly what FSG did with last season, deciding in their infinite wisdom that the 2nd half of the season was easily explained and truly representative of where we were heading. Dumbasses.
I always like Lucas and think Henderson is a good squad player with potential. Its only Downing I dislike. Doesn't matter how old a player is, if he is one of your best, you don't lose him.
Also, you don't change a winning formula. Hendo shouldn't have been thrown in. If Downing wasn't cutting it, Maxi should have got the nod. There was chemistry, there was balance, there was good shape to the team and attacking threat, we were scoring goals without an out and out goalscorer. We wanted to shift all of that to accomadate our big buys, when they needed ( Hendo and Carroll) a bit more time to bed in to the team. To drop 20 mil on Downing was just ott for me, could have done a lot better for a lot less. Hell Jarvis isn't that great but would have been younger, cheaper, and probably the same output as downing.
The Downing bashing continues. I agree there was a huge case for selling him over the summer. Last year he was poor. He hasn't been fantastic this year either but a number of players (including everyone's favourites Gerrard and Carragher) have been equally bad or worse. Apples to apples comparing to people playing in positions he could... he's been better than Borini and Henderson but much worse than Sterling. I think we need to judge him now based on how he performs for Rodgers, not how he performed for Dalglish. I'd give him a C-. Could be much better but certainly not our worst player this season and he has been played in unfamiliar territory a couple of times.
Just in my perspective, I have placed players like Gerrard, Pepe, etc as underperforming as well. One of the reasons Downing is at LB is because he hasn't been cutting it at LM, let's remember that though. His spot was taken by a 17yr old and probably will be behind Assaidi once his family issues are sorted. Again, he hasn't been our worst but he is still a long long way off his best.
