I don't get many chances to see us live any more, this is the first game I've seen since Sheffield Wednesday. A few things I noticed:

1) Doing an Adkins and taking the positives first, I thought we looked pretty solid at the back. Their goal had a bit of luck about it and they had few other chances.
2) We played a lot of 'attacking football' but, to be honest, we created next to nothing. Read somewhere we had 2 shots on target. Every time we had a good looking chance, we other screwed up or a Sunderland defender made a good challenge
3) We were second to almost every second ball. A number of times the ball bounced in their area and no Saints players challenged for it.

We were flat all game and credit to Sunderland, they took advantage. An off day, but sadly a result that when combined with Wigan, Norwich and Swansea at home, we may well regret in May.

We have played woeful against the teams we need to beat and yet the sandal wearers still adore the orange one.

Its not the defeat as always its the manner of the defeat, we are to nice and soft.
**** that! We need to man the **** up if we are to survive, the tanned one is simply to kind.

Tanned one! Orange one? You are developing a very abusive complex about a decent bloke. I guess you are one of the moronic posters on the Echo site with the continued references to the Orange one, tangerine head e.t.c. please deny it, unless it is true.

As soon as there's no longer any risk of us beating Derby's record, he changes tact - unable to call us the worst PL team in history, unable to say we have the worst defence in the league, he instead switches to "Adkins is orange LOL". Once again, **** off gomarchingin.

Is he even a Saints fan? He seems to hate everything about the club. Seriously gomarchingin, **** right off.

All the people on the Echo site who call Adkins "orange one", "tango head" etc. are invariably skate WUMs. I don't think GMI is one, but that kind of **** is definitely rubbing off on him. So he is the worst kind of Saints fan, one who uses abuse stolen from Pompey fans.

I beg to differ, some of the abusers are definitley NOT Skate WUMs, can't tar them all with the same brush. They may have no allegiance to football at all, just attention seeking, there are some decent Skate posters who just get a rough time because of what they are, not very democratic IMO, doesn't mean that I actually like them, quite the contrary. I agree with your last sentence 100%.

Is he even a Saints fan? Only he himself can answer that, his track record for straight answers to straight questions isn't good.

I just looked at the BBC's match stats on this game and although this doesn't tell the whole story we had 48% possesion and slightly better key stats - except number of goals scored!!

So my question is we're we really that poor? We lost, we didn't dominate, and we're still at the wrong end of the table but I'm not panicking just yet.

Re: Gaston, I listened to the match on Solent and Dave Merrington said Gaston was out on one of the flanks, not feeding the ball through the centre. If this was the case, I'd agrees with Dave that Gaston's full ability wasn't being used, and perhaps thats why he didn't perform as well as expected?

In Lalana's absence it's at least good to see, frm the BBC stats, that we still had more shots on goal than Sunderland. As the saying goes: in Adkins we trust.
