Nelson 8 Fish N/A Legge 8 Barrett 7 Martin 6 Gregory 7 Lagzini 6 Whelps 6 Lee 7 Mcdonald 5 Kedwell 7 Subs Butcher 3 Weston 7 Bayo 5 All in all the game was fairly even. They had a more better chances and should have really taken one sooner. Allen made a massive mistake by bringing on butcher who is no way near conference level let alone league one. Colchester could see this weakness and used their left hand side continuously. For the goal butcher was so far out of position. Yes i no the midfield gave it away but he should of saw play fizzling out and got back in position sooner. I dont understand why allen didnt see this weakness. He practically started the game so i do not see bringing him off in early second half. Slotting in charlie lee (who had a good game) and putting on the likes of dack in midfield. Poor from allen today.
Not saying its his fault. He tried his hardest. Hes just noway near ready and allen has the experience and should have seen that. We were exposed all game and it cost us from pushing on for 3 points as they countered down that side.
Fair point,so what do you do. Forget about having a youth system ? get loans in ? Remember it is apparently reported no funds left.
No i would have put charlie lee there as we know he is good in that roll and bought on dack (still youth / more promise )
Yes that would of been a option, and maybe in hindsight a better one,but lee took a knock and would of needing replacing.
Even whelps has slotted im there. Again bringin on dack or weston. Shouldnt have to be in hindsight. Colchester used it all game and we got lucky a few times before the goal came
yes, but i still believe in the youth, they should be used rather than just playing academy games and last games of the season, but that is my opinion.
Need to play youth but can't just throw them in because they are young. Personally when Butcher came on I knew Allen rated him so was more than happy with that change but at half time maybe he should have been pulled off because it clearly wasn't going to be his day. Need a loanee in at right back in my opinion, trying to play kids or a make shift defender is just a recipe for failure, ask someone like Ian Hendon if we can have a 21 or something year old from the Hammers for a month or two. Think today was the wake up call we needed in terms of squad depth.
Butcher must be this years scapegoat then, in what was a poor league 2 performance he was doing what he was told, Barrett and Legge were charging up field and telling Butcher to come central, then when they couldn't get back quick enough who gets the blame for being out of position, I know let's blame the new boy. I said on another thread I didn't think we are good enough for this league and challenged the lads to make me eat humble pie, the pie will stay secure in the freezer on todays performance.
Amine Linganzi was by far the best player on pitch for me! Stuck to his job well and looked pretty good and committed himself well. I just hope he will stay injury free as he looks to have great potential
Bit harsh on butcher. Did better than Evans when he had to come on for his debut. Full credit to the lad, never got skimmed by their wingers. Held his own imo.
He did get skinned by Sears though, especially when he first came on. He should certainly not have been subbed though. That would have destroyed his confidence. The mistake,as has been said ,was bringing him on in the first place. If he was to come on, Lee or Whelps should have been in Fish's plaice, and Butcher left until the last 15 minutes or so. It was unfair to expect him to play virtually 90 minutes against experienced pro's like Sears.
I'm not very good with a points rating so I will give views instead if I may... Nelson - brilliant performance and called upon several times for some outstanding saves. Never lets us down. Fish - was shocked to see him go down at the start of the game and failed to see what happened but was in clear pain. Legge - best defender we have. Barrett - sorry no view for this game. Martin - cracking shot in the second half, just over thew bar (I think it was him). Needed to get in the game more. Gregory - most disappointing player on the pitch and I'm failing to see whatever others do. Can only get better. Lagzini - look forward to seeing more of this lad. Whelps - put in an average performance but one that I was happy with until being dispossessed in the Colchester half in the dying minutes...I was fuming with him - the complacency should cost him a one match place against Wolves. Lee - pit bull, please stay. Mcdonald - when you try and create partnerships of old management, you had better be able to add your own ingenuity to it or be prepared to follow the form book style. MA failed on both levels. Kedwell - some cracking shots. I felt Keds had a new eye for goal from distance, I like what I saw but sadly he was to deep to be Cody's partner. Subs Butcher - well done lad. Naturally took a few minutes to gain your footing but happy with what I saw. There was one incident that Lee blamed you for, I was right in front of that incident. It was not your fault at all but Lee covering his own back, in a current difficult climate for him. Weston - Needs to stay centre, down the wing is like a broken record. Bayo - a defender and goal keepers worst nightmare.
nelson 8 fish Martin 7 barrett 7 legge 8 Gregory 6 whip 6 lee 7 legzini 7 kedwell 7 mcdon 5 subs butcher 5 Weston 6 aiki 5 could have been a draw, we have a difficult month now, could stay bottom 4 all month.
Gregory 0. Offers nothing. Gave ball away twice in the middle of the park with several passes on allowing a shot on our goal both times as a result. Looks 'lost' on the ball Makes a majority of passes back to our back 4 rather than moving the play on. Useless. Useless. Useless.
