Rate The Player - Matt Connolly

  1. Premiership Class. One of our key players last season and next

  2. Potential. Excelled last season in the CCC, but could find the step up a challenge.

  3. Squad. Did enough in the CCC to secure a berth in the squad, but will only warm the bench.

  4. Did OK against Leeds and Donny;the prospect of Man City and Arsenal is too scary to contemplate.

  5. Didn't contribute enough last season - certainly shouldn't be on the bus this year.

    4. Started his career with Rangers very brightly but has faded in recent times. Seemed to totally lose his nerve towards the business end of last season and when the going gets tough this coming year we'll need players who won't bottle it.

3 - Could struggle, but not if NW can keep his confidence up. I doubt we will seem him for more than half the matches.

    2. He was brilliant in the 1st part of the season but lost it in the second half, remember he had an absolute mare against Leicester which hindered his confidence in march. IMO he's a player who needs to have game after game after game to reach his best

How good was he that first part of the season really?
I seem to remember loads of little slips and mistakes and a busy Paddy.

    3. I think he has potential but definitely seems to be of a fragile nature.

    3. Can be a 1 or can be a 5 on any given day (never forget the roasting Waghorn gave him at LR this season when Fitz hammied again).

If his confidence returns, he has all the attributes (bit of pace, classy on the ball, can head/tackle) to play this level.

2 for me, Looks great on the ball but sometimes makes a right horlicks of defending prone to the occasional red card, he will have to up his game or find himself warming the bench

Good cover but a potential liability in the Prem. I cant honestly see him stepping up, especially against big physical forwards.

    4. He's a self-searching Hamlet-style jitterer... 'to make the tackle now or not to make the tackle, that is the question...'.

A man without bollocks operating in a department where big bollocks is king.

I think he's half there with some untapped potential still waiting to be unleashed but this did make me chuckle.

2 - Has potential, seems to suffer the odd hesitant indiscretion which he can't afford at this level.

3 - needs to regain his confidence - quickly, or we will be in real trouble! If NW can work some magic on him during pre-season, he may prove us wrong - but I doubt it

Did ok last year, am concerned how he tailed off though at the end of the season, i'd like to see a more experienced centre back play along side him to help him through.

2 this player has potential but I feel he will be sent out on loan for confidence.
