I'll start this thread by saying that I think all our centre backs are good enough, so the three that start don't really bother me, but I'm interested to know who we rate the most.

    For me, it would be:

    Chester
    Hobbs
    Faye
    McShane
    Bruce

I'm judging it on overall ability, I accept that on this seasons performances alone, McShane might move up a place or two(I also had a hard job deciding between Hobbs and Faye).

On the basis that most of us seem to be happy that they're all good enough, I'm interested to see in which order we'd place them.

Pretty much what you said but with Bruce and McShane swapped.

I agree with what you sometimes say about Bruce hoofing it to much, but he simply doesn't make defensive errors and that's the main thing.

    I'd agree with that.
Chester and Hobbs plus anyone from the other 3 really, they are all about the same level maybe Faye just in front due to being able to score at the other end more often than Macca and Junior.

Hobbs/McShane equal - No Nonsense, committed, thou shalt not pass approach to defending. I like that style.
Chester - I think he was better last season - it might be down to the 3 at the back. Still excellent though.
Faye/Bruce equal consistent never let anyone down - Faye a great goal threat.

Realistically you're splitting hairs to be able to pick an order, they've all been magnificent to date this season - I'd be happy with any 3 in the starting 11.

I find it hard to split Chester and Hobbs although I think as time goes on Chester will prove himself to be a bit special. I love the kind of defender that Faye is, big unit with a bit of nous and likes a goal, I'd offer him another year if we go up or not. Mcshane and Bruce are both decent championship defenders but nothing more.

I agree with your list but I'd have Chester and Hobbs levels.

    Chester
    Faye
    Hobbs
    McShane
    Bruce

All have been very good, I picked Faye over Hobbs because despite both being consistently good, Faye has one attribute far better than Hobbs' and that's physical presence. The home game against Bolton where he dominated Davies being a great example of this.

    McShane
    McShane
    McShane
    McShane
    McShane

If I HAD to include the others, then I'd go with this...

    McShane
    Chester
    Hobbs
    Faye
    The Bruce

I know it's kind of the norm to put Chester as number one, but I think McShane is at his peak right now whereas Chester isn't. Chester may or may not have more raw ability than McShane and may well prove to be better in the future, but at the moment McShane is the better of the two.

Hobbs is good but not great, I used to think he was ****e, but now I think he's alright.

Faye's a bit slow and old for me, decent enough cover but not a starting player.

I used to defend The Bruce, he's got spirit but I'm starting to fall into the "he's actually a bit ****" camp.

I'd group Chester, Hobbs and Faye together in front. Then McShane. Then Bruce.

I love the threat Faye brings to corners - if only the others could add that to their game.

Thats how I see it, Faye and Hobbs are about the same level but I think Abous threat at the other end brings him above Hobbs.

I'm amazed you went for McShane, I certainly didn't see that one coming...

Good to see that everyone thinks that all five are up to the job.

I think it might have got a little more controversial if I'd included Cooper or Bradley.

Chester -What more can you say? Good enough for the Top Flight and hopefully that will be with us
Hobbs - Not that far behind Chester, a very good defender at this level.
Faye - Nearing the end of his career but has given us valuable goals, experience and presence in defence.
McShane - Done a good job when called upon.
    Bruce - Same as Macca.

They have all played their part. If AB didnt play again this season then he will have done a great job.

Its difficult. As a two i would go Faye and Chezzy.

As a 3 Chezzy Faye Bruce. Speed strength organisation. Hobbs has the potential to be all 3 but he does need to up his game. Jack needs a target of scoring 5 goals by the end of the season.

    Chester (the best I've seen)
    Hobbs
    And unbelievably Mcshane

Faye is in his twilight years and Bruce is decent back up.
    It's a very good back 5 though!

    Chester
    McShane
    Hobbs
    Faye
    Bruce

Not much between the top 3, Faye is good but his lack of pace let's him down. Bruce is solid but is far too injury prone and hoofs it too much. I'm not worried by any of them playing though, all do a good job and all work well together.
