Rangers priced out of striker deal Jun 30 2011 By Paul Warburton Jay Bothroyd Image 1 Jay Bothroyd QPR have been priced out of a move for Cardiff City striker Jay Bothroyd. The England striker, although a free agent when his deal expires tomorrow, is understood to have wanted wages of around £50,000-a-week. And with a wage cap somewhere around half of that at Loftus Road â the club is no nearer the extra firepower needed to do better than Ollyâs club. Although a pay packet was a problem in Bothroydâs case, the position of manager Neil Warnock was the rock on which the transfer of £4million Craig Mackail-Smith foundered, according to Peterborough director of football, Barry Fry.
personally, I am all for player asking fo a salary HE feels HE is entitled to ask for, but I think that Boothroyd is being a tad greedy, and I am glad we won't pay that wage. There is a story I have read to today in the Mail regarding Birmingham, and the cut backs they are making because of relegation to the Championship. What I hope for my QPR is that we don't overspend on salaries and find ourselves in a mess. If we offered players a decent wage (surely you can afford to live on £10 k a week..I wouldn't mind trying that), and have bonuses linked in - ie where we finish in the table, bonuses for clean sheets and goal etc etc. As far as Barry Fry and CMS, I will take alot of that with a pinch of salt. If CMS doesn't fancy a move to us fair enough, however at the moment the buffons in charge KNOW they would be bloody stupid to get rid of NW especially as he has th support of the fans and players, and that for the first time in years has got the team running and performing as we had all hoped for. Even a run of bad results - something I am sure will happen next season, I know we have the right man in charge.
As I posted earlier I've got a gut feeling that Warnock won't be around for the start of the season! We'll probably have Zidane as manager with a squad of ageing Italians, Tarbs will be sold and we'll have HH and Hulse up front! enjoy the ride guys cos this is just Feckin Shiiiiiiiiiiiiit
Bothroyd deserves a higher wage than normal as his contract has run out and no transfer fee is required to sign him. If it was an open market and we had to pay a fee for him he must be in the £6-7m bracket at least? If we were to stump up the £40k a week for 3 years does that not work out at £6.2m?? Still good business in my eyes, we should pay up.
I agree with Bakes. For a player like him we would easily pay 4-5 mill , and then 20k a week . That equates to more than the 40k a week we could pay him . Also if he has a blinding season we could sell and make money. Like Chelsea will do with Sturridge (just as an example). As a package i think this one still works.
They could do the deal without breaking their pay structure with a signing on fee. If they wanted to spend any money!
You mean that idiot who Bothroyd was playing for when he got an England cap and had a career high goals scored
To be fair to jones - he got bothroyd playing in the form of his career - especially in the first half of last season. But I agree that Warnock would be able to do something similar
Can some one please tell me who is CityAce? I see he/she are always writing on our board! Mind you he/she sounds quit young , or just ******ed?
One of the richest clubs in the country being priced out of a deal for an arrogant, over-rated prick.. Lol.
