    Rangers fail in striker bid

Jun 9 2011 By Jacob Murtagh

QPR are set to miss out on Craig Mackail-Smith after refusing to meet his £4million price tag.

We told you on Tuesday that Rangers had renewed their interest in the Peterborough striker after number one target Danny Graham joined Swansea.

Boss Neil Warnock is desperate to add firepower to his ranks, and believes the 35-goal frontman fits the bill because of his versatility up front.

However, Warnock is not willing to part with a large chunk of his transfer budget for the 27-year-old, who is also being tracked by Everton, Norwich and Wigan.

i agree no way is he worth 4m, wouldn't go above 2.5m, only proved it in league one, christ graham was 3.5m & i'd know who i would have taken.

Totally the right decision not to up the bid. Some teams just take the biscuit with their valuations, but then I suppose if some teams are stupid enough to pay then why not?

I've got to agree with LR and JR. That figure, if correct, looks way OTT for a League One striker, even with his impressive haul last season. It would be a huge jump from League One to the Prem and would be a very risky investment at that price, as well as consuming a large proportion of what is likely to be a limited transfer budget. I would much rather have had Graham for that sort of money.

Agree Jeff, if they get more than Watford did for Graham, that'll be good business by them.

Agree with all the above. I don't think we've failed necessarily - we just haven't succeeded yet...I can't see anyone paying £4m for him.

    Agree with all posts.

Just wondering though: Presuming ourselves and Swansea need the same amount of strengthening, more or less, and they outbid us for Graham, does that mean Brendan Rogers has a bigger transfer kitty than our COLIN? If so, that is worrying indeed.

No, it just means Warnock isn't as stupid as Rodgers.

Way too highly priced. Now many Bristol City fans have said were likely to put in a bid for Maynard, but then that is just some fans.

You've got to love phil's consistency, he must be on the QPR board more than the swansea one......

Anyone would think he wants a hooped shirt for the start of the season.

Becchio too slow, look the one thing we've got going for us that others haven't is Warnock. Sure he'd like Graham but at the end of the day he doesn't fit in with our system.
We need a big strong fella like Jason Roberts or a gangly handful like Crouch to hold the ball up for the three speed merchants coming through.
Warnock won't be held too ransom and like all Yorkshiremen he like's what he know's and know's what he like's.
As for Phil, he's Welsh for gods sake, what does he know about football? Go back to the rugby field sir! Come to think of it you're not very good at that at the moment.

@worknoplay77 Theyve already agreed to pay it. Just a question of where the player wants2go (would only be that amount with several add-ons)

In all fairness you cant blame anyone quoting over the odds to QPR with all that extra season ticket money the club has to spend <whistle>
