Skysports.com understands Queens Park Rangers are eyeing a move for former Portsmouth midfielder Michael Brown. Brown is available on a free transfer after leaving Portsmouth upon the expiration of his contract at Fratton Park. The former Tottenham and Manchester City man has not featured for Pompey since Boxing Day as one more appearance would have triggered a new contract on wages that the club cannot afford. QPR boss Neil Warnock is a huge admirer of Brown having worked with the midfielder during his time in charge of Sheffield United and is keen on being reunited with the player at Loftus Road. Hull City and Middlesbrough are both thought to be keen on Brown, but Warnock hopes the lure of one final crack at the Premier League will sway the 34-year-old to make the move to Rangers.
Are we aiming to be the oldest team in the prem? C'mon you lot, better get our boots back down again!
We seem to linked to every 30+ midfielder going, thats not where we weak we need a couple of defenders and a 20 goal striker asap please
**** me, 34 years old. I've just heard that Clive Dunn is available and Captain Mainwaring could do a good job as well!!!!
I too am left asking - how ****ing old? But if Warnock genuinely wants him, then I am happy to have him. (Even if it does sound like a **** idea) In Warnock we trust.
It could be a good idea to get one or two more oldies in like Bullard and Brown. Next season is going to be tough, and there are going to be times when we struggle, and the older heads might be calming influence on the younger players and those that haven' experenced the premier league before. We don't have to give them 3 year deals, sometimes a one year deal would be sufficient. and they might just have something to prove. Let's not forget that when NW signed Shaun Derry and Clint Hill, most of us were somewhat surprised and those two players have probably exceeded all expectations. NW needs players he can trust and he knows.....I just hope that he can get Kyle Walker back, at least one other striker possibly two and a commanding centre back like Chris Samba.
The problem is that we are not going to get Walker or Samba, they will go to (or stay with) bigger clubs. We will either get those they haven't quite made it are are still young. I'd look to the better, young players from the top of the Championship - some of those will be good enough. Maybe one experienced defender and one midfielder, but they will demand high wages, and I can't see us paying them. That will be the attraction of someone like Brown, he isn't getting any wages at the moment and so will settle for less.
