I personally believe that now is time for Ranger to step up. He was living in Carroll's shadow and therefore didnt get the gametime or hype, which lets be honest, is what players want. Look at the facts:
He's a big lad, got good pace, can hold the ball up and looks like he's got a nice touch.
I strongly believe with the right nurturing from Pardew and the right support to him from the rest of the team, we could have a Carroll mark 2. Yes he's not local, but as we have seen that doesnt count for **** these days. The days of Shearer type loyalty are over.
Carroll hardly was "banging them in" in the CCC, so I say if Ranger can finish the season with around 5-7 goals it will be a good start and he can knuckle down in the summer and come back as one of our main target men.
