Apparently Angel Rangel and his mrs are currently driving around town with food for the homeless. Say what you like about his motives, but I thought it a nice gesture that he certainly doesn't have to do. Fair play to him
I don't think there are any bad motives in it. He's just a good guy. Been committed to the club that gave him a big chance, loves the area, married a Swansea girl, feeds the homeless and plays a major role in the transformation of our club......What more can you want from him! Angel the Angel
Didn't Balotelli book a few Manchester down and outs in local hotels when it was cold up there? These stories are not negative so they don't get much coverage in the Press.....
Yeah, I think he put them up in the Ritz for christmas or something. Like you say, things like that don't get much coverage, but if he gave some knob a slap or something it will be all over the papers
CNN have picked it up and interviewed him already http://edition.cnn.com/2013/01/18/sport/football/football-premier-league-swansea-snow/index.html
lovely story! goes to show what a decent fellow Angel is, along with his attachment to the greater community of Swansea.
Got to thinking after I posted. Why on earth don't these catering establishments pass on any surplus/waste food to homeless charities in the first place? If they all had a list of telephone numbers of the various shelters and charities to call them, I'm sure the people there would only be too happy to dispatch someone to collect this food and distribute it to the needy. The general public could also get involved. If someone phoned me, I would be prepared to drive to these places to collect any surplus to take to the shelters. This horribly cold weather we are having must be hell for the homeless to endure. Most of us might be snug, cosy and warm at home but others less fortunate are not and anything we can do, we should do to help them. And once again, well done to Angel and Nikki for getting involved.
hmmmmmmmmmmm they do in australia, huge network from major food chains and charaties, very surprised it does not happen in wales
Happens here in HK as well, very organised with major hotels and retailers contributing. i'm surprised it doesn't happen in Wales. Homelessness is a terrible thing, when i last lived in the UK i was a volunteer for CHAR. it's good to see the Scottish Parliament being pro-active in introducing legislation to tackle homelessness, would be nice to see Cameron introducing similar, then again more chance of our neighbours up the road winning the premiership.
A reason it doesn't happen here is Health & Safety. I've worked at plenty of venues in the UK and a lot of the time any left over food goes in the bin simply because the fear of getting sued due to food poisoning. Sounds ridiculous but there's always someone out looking to capitalise on situations.
hey musty one of the reasons i moved here was the transport system, sure as hell beats wasting 2 hours a day sitting gridlocked in the UK. back on track, likewise there's safety clauses protecting both sides. the food distributed ranges from Hotel buffet food to supermarket expiry date produce. it's a little known fact that there are thousands of people living beneath the poverty line in HK with little or no support from the government. so there's a lot of charitable initiatives to give back. and it's all kudos to the companies that contribute the produce, it doesn't seem to effect their profit margin at all, in fact probably helps as it boosts their credibility with most consumers. doesn't let the uncaring government off mind, who should be providing better support
you are bang on.stereo I was in greggs close too closing time and they had tonnes of food left over and they were basically giving it away so I remarked why don't they box it up and give Tue local shelter a ring and they said the same that they could get the sack for giving the food to charities but utter was ok to sell exactly the same food to me only an hour earlier absolute crazy. But back to the subject well done rangel and his family you jack b###ard
Today I spent £5 on a bag of seed and some fat balls for the birds but nothing on homeless people. Have I got my priorities wrong??
