http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/13935817.stm Well... he kinda says that, anyway... no real mention of Angel but that's the "angel" of the article, anyway. (geddit? ) It'd be great news if he signs a new contract, and I also like how straight talking Huw is at the end of the article!
yea Huw is very good...But he also said the same of Dorus De Vries, he was confident he would sign. I think Rangel is gone, or he would have signed by now
I can't believe all of this fuss over relegation clauses. In this 'age of austerity' every single club will have a relegation clause in there. As long as the relegation wage is what they were on last season plus inflation plus a little bit just to keep them sweet then it shouldn't be a problem.
How can any player expect to keep the same salary if relegated? You get huge sums on failure unless you own a bank honestly if a player is to stupid to realise that, it makes you wonder if they do any independent thinking themselves! If Rangel is stalling on that then basically go as the club's long term future is more important than enriching him should he fail and others fail to keep us up.
the whole point of the parachute money from premier league is to help you pay higher wages if you go down.
Ahem. Do you or anyone you know really get your base salary reduced if your company fails to meet it's sales targets? Because other than the self-employed I don't know anyone working in the normal world under those terms. Of course I know a reduction is necessary and so does Rangel, I'd suspect the stalling is over how much it would be.
Hackerjack took the words out of my mouth. All the players know they'll take a pay cut if we don't stay up next year. They are probably trying to decide what his wage would be back in the Championship. If we've offered him the same amount of money that he was on last season, then he's rightly standing his ground. Given the effort he's put into this club, the amount of time he's been here, and the fact that we'll be in a much better financial state in the Championship than the last time we were there, he deserves to have a decent relegation salary built into his contract. He won't be expecting the same wage as in the Premiership, but he rightly won't accept having his wage decreased to a "bottom 4 in the Championship" level once again (as we were last season).
Championship clubs are only going to be able to spend 65% of their income on wages in the future. Last season Swansea's was 92% Swansea will benefit from parachute payments if they come back down but their wage bill in the prem is likely to be £30-35mil
