Whenever people are talking about chants regarding to Portsmouth in support of the team, whenever it's written (e.g. on Twitter/the News) it's expressed as "Such and such's blue and white army!" yet in all the games I've been to and all the various people's armies I've been to, it's always been "such and such's blue army", e.g. "Avram Grant's Blue army" or "Whittingham's Blue army", it's never been "Whittingham's Blue and white army!". I think the extra two syllables make it pretty much unchantable.... but why then is it always written as "blue and white army!" as opposed to just "blue army"?
It sounds to me like a cut 4/4 = 2/2 tempo over two bars. As the 1st beat of every bar is given an accent, this would make the long version correct. Eg; AVram grant's/BLUE and white army/AVram grant's/BLUE and white army/ repeat or WHITtingham's/BLUE and white army/WHITingham's/BLUE and white army/ etc;
I think each stanza should finish with a blue-third chord - well, it usually does if Westwood is blowing his bugle!
This is exactly what I mean! http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/awford-salutes-fantastic-wall-of-noise-1-5983715 In the article it's written Andy Awford's blue and white army.... Now I know my hearing isn't fantastic, mainly due to playing headphones quite loud when I was younger, but they're definitely chanting Andy Awford's Blue Army, right?!
Yes, that's probably what it is. The first half- beat is always the rest, where you breathe. Otherwise, Avram Grant's blue army, Avram Grant's, etc would be in Waltz time. Not really acceptable for one to chant in 3/4 time in League 2!
Better than a 6/8! I think we could put on the hard shoes and incorporate a nice Hornpipe into proceedings. please log in to view this image
