spare a thought for the spectator struck by an american golf ball... due to the yanks complete in ability to keep a ball even to within 40 yards of the fairway apparently she has lost the sight in her eye.

I believe it happened day 1.

apparently is" hard to control a ball when its going 300 yards."

He eye socket was crushed and the eye ball "exploded"

And the guy himself siad "oh it looked like it hurt" on the day as he ran off as soon as he could and theres no point shouting fore cos at 300 yards you won't hear it.

Golf is a dangerous spectator sport. People's eyeballs never explode in football.

Lewis Hamilton title #6 sewed up now? I didn't watch the race (don't watch many now... But follow the news).

Sounds like some scummy team orders which will make this title hollow even if he wins by more than 25 points.

I hated it when the evil Ferrari used team orders and I like it no more now Mercedes is doing it. Imo this has tainted the whole season for Hamilton, even if he wins by more than 25 points and the whole thing was meaningless.

    title no 5 <ok>

in fairness he was ahead of vettel and never not bineg ahead of him at end so its icing on cake orders

TBH after the performances this season hamilton deserves title as vettel threw best car away and now that best car is gone.

Hamitloins pole lap at singapore was absolutely top drawer and that imo won the title for him. this stuff about bottas is just merc making sure.

Sorry... Yes 5 not 6. It may just be "making sure" but it really stinks. I hated seeing that pantomime villain, Schumacher doing it... And even though I want Hamilton to win, I perhaps despise even more seeing Hamilton do it.

TBH the race was dull so you missed nothing.

Hamitlon was passed by vettel in pitstops and hamilton absolutely belw by vettel who even tried a naughtly little blocking move.

So hamilton was 2nd by right and secured himself and extra 7 points which will 100% assure the title.

but you should have seen hamilton sit in his car til he was absolutely sure bottas was gone. Bottas even went over and checked hamilton's "blistered" rear tyre.

Vettel went over after and gave it a couple kicks like he was buying a second hand car as well <laugh>

Not getting out of the car was more weaselly imo than having the swapped position.

The Ryder people are saying several shouts of "fore" were given. She's suing for medical costs but not sure how much responsibility you take by going onto a golf course and standing alongside the fairway. She might stand more chance in a US court used to this kind of litigation but she's French and it happened in France. I don't fancy her chances.

In the UK if you are a spectator at an event you accept the normal risk that the event brings. She would struggle to win a case here. It would be different if say it was a motor sport event and it could be proven the safety measures were inadequate, but if the organisers had done everything possible to avoid spectator injury and there was a freak accident then they would be safe from any civil action. Of course it would be up to the courts to decide what is reasonable by way of safety measures.

I've never understood going to golf courses to watch tournaments... You really can't see what's going on and you can't really experience the highs and lows as people succeed or fail... Because how would you even know? You can't even contribute to the atmosphere... At least not without getting escorted off the premises.

Not really sure what you can do to improve spectator safety at golf course.
Shelters over the rough covering the crowd? That would interfere with OB balls, and frankly be a ****ing nightmare to install and a really ugly eyesore (Golf courses are partly sold on their aesthetics) . The same with netting on the edge of each hole.
Ban people from gathering on the rough along the fairway? Then you'd only get viewers on the Tee and Green, missing a 1/3 of the hole.
Move the spectators farther back? The holes are already tightly packed together so there is little space for spectators anyway and what happens when another golfer hits a longer shot and it happens again.
Ban spectators altogether? <laugh> That'll go down well

Its a freak accident and nothing more. You go to an event where there is a small flying hard ball and you accept that is a very small chance you might get hit when standing in a potential path of the ball.
You've got to look at how many times this is happening and are large numbers of people at risk (at one time and overall). If this happens alot or a lot of people were injured at the same time then you could argue there is something wrong, however if one person gets hurt and it only happens once in a blue moon then I don't think she's got a leg to stand on.

If you are at tee you are relatively safe.... flying club is possible.

If you are around green... in theory you are facing play and in theory able to see ball coming in... in theory. In practice you cant really.

If you are on fairway you are ****ed.

I think they should all wear helmets with face masks in future.

    Like the helmets they are

Or when you hear FORE don't look up..crouch, hands on head looking down.

If you don't hear FORE but see other people doing it...copy them.

It's amazing how many people do exactly the wrong thing. It was the same in climbing. If you dislodged crap you yelled "Below!" The amount of people with helmets on that would then look up rendering said helmet pointless and expose their face was ridiculous.

I do think that any golfer who doesn't shout fore and a spectator is hit should be disqualified from that comp. Keopke and staff did in this case.

Ryan Day never bothers his arse. I watched him hit 3 people in one round and not once had he yelled.
