It's a piss-poor article, as far as we're aware we've not made any approach from Bruce or Abbott, so Rosler is probably bollocks too.
Just seen what Man City fans sing about him. It goes Uwe Rosler's grandad bombed the Stretford End. Surely if he comes here we can change it to Uwe Rosler's grandad bombed Elland Road.
Fair enough but it's nothing new though, is it? Loads of chants are actually in bad taste- everytime England go abroad the fans bring out the 10 German Bombers in the air chants. Rangers sing anti Irish songs at Celtic- the famine is over, it's time to go home. You whinge at Leicester fans for being too soppy when you write "Leicesteristan" and they complain. It's the same is it not?
Second actually. And by area, technically the worst hit - people don't ever seem to take that into account. London got bombed more, but when you think of it's size compared to Hull... it's like saying - shoot a mouse 100 times, then shoot a hippo 150 times, which is likely to be most intact?
That certainly makes it fine then. Most Leeds fans irritate me like nothing else however a line always needs to be drawn. Right is still right if no one is doing it, wrong is still wrong if everyone is doing it.
In Hull 95% of buildings suffered bomb damage. That's actually the highest percentage of any UK city. But I really dont get why people hate the Germans - as a nation we are so similar to them it is ridiculous. Back on topic, he'd be ok but I dont buy it - I just cant see us paying compo. As for slagging off The Star, it is EXACTLY the same journos who write the Express, they are literally the same paper written to be aimed at a different audience and I doubt so many would scoff if it was run in there instead.
I persoanlly don't sing chants like "10 german bombers" or label Leicester "Leicsteristan", and I don't think it's the same: England was at war with Germany, so siding with the ex-enemy against a fellow Yorkshire city isn't on for me. The term "Leicesteristan" suggests a large Pakistani population, which may be seem racist to some. It actually isn't as the suffix "-istan" in Altaic language means "land", so really linguistically it just means "Leicesterland".. but there's an undercurrent all the same. The difference for me is: Nobody has died in Leicester. They did in WW2 and the Irish potato famine.
I know you're not explaining or condoning the term there, but for those who do it's a poor excuse. The term Leicesteristan is used in a derogatory way, the suggestion being that Leicester is worse than Hull because it has a large ethnic minority population. That therefore is racist. Back on topic anyone?
I'm sure the song is about the actual site (the ground itself) rather than killing people. I'm not sick in the head. You're right on all points you made above.
Surely were getting a b it sensitive about bloke who isnt even coming here. That song is as much taking the piss out of themself as Man U surely? Sounds one of the more harmless ones. What about Psycho is a German to Stuart Pearce?? FFS lighten up.
Totally agree. Surely Man City fans appreciated that bombs fell elsewhere than Old Trafford in the Greater Manchester area.
O/T - Germany losing to us in 1966 barely registers with your average German football fan. They are more concerned with losses and victories over the Dutch. On topic - Uwe Rosler, not for me. If you were going to go for a lower league manager with a decent record in a relatively short period of time, then you would surely go for Lee Clark.
I wouldn't be surprised if Assem and Ehab had never heard of Uwe Rosler until someone told them his name had appeared on oddschecker.
I don't agree. They are rivals with us. Check all the bile been spouted between the fans of each country on sites like simple youtube videos and you know it cuts deeper than that. You can have more than one rivalry.
