Head Coach Chris Ramsey ‘heartened’ with QPR's second-half comeback at Villa Park ... Chris Ramsey praises QPR's spirit during Tuesday's 3-3 draw at Aston Villa Matt Phillips, Clint Hill and Charlie Austin on target in pulsating Villa Park affair Ramsey disappointed not to take maximum points after Christian Benteke's late equaliser READ: Match Report: Aston Villa 3, QPR 3 CHRIS Ramsey believes QPR’s ‘fantastic’ second-half performance which secured a point from Tuesday night’s trip to Aston Villa proves they have what it takes to stay in the Premier League. Rangers looked to be heading for a potentially crushing defeat after Christian Benteke’s first-half double overturned Matt Phillips’ early opener. Ramsey’s side were much-improved after the break, though, with goals from Clint Hill and Charlie Austin restoring the R’s lead before Benteke’s third meant honours finished even at the end of a pulsating 90 minutes at Villa Park. “It was a good game,” Ramsey told www.qpr.co.uk. “We got overrun a bit in the first half. We caused our own problems, our technique was poor, we gave the ball away a lot and we rode our luck. “But in the second half I thought we were fantastic and gave the travelling fans something to cheer about. “All credit to them.” After providing the perfect start through Phillips’ seventh-minute opener, Ramsey admits he was disappointed to surrender the lead so easily. “We wouldn’t like to give away three goals in the manner that we did,” he added. “The goals [QPR conceded] were schoolboy errors. “We scored, we were on top and then we make a mistake with a basic pass and suddenly they’ve scored.” The draw keeps the R’s hopes of top flight survival alive, boosted by four points on the road in as many days fresh from Saturday’s 4-1 win at West Bromwich Albion. Ramsey, though, was disappointed not to return from the West Midlands with all six ahead of Sunday’s local derby with leaders Chelsea. He admitted: “We would have loved to have won the game and then it would have been everything to fight for. We’re still in the battle but it would have made our life a lot easier. “If you looked before the fixtures, would we have taken four points? We probably would have. Based on our second half performance, though, we’re disappointed we haven’t come away with all six. “What’s heartening for us is that we’ve performed really well. We’ve shown that we do have the ability to survive. “I feel the players are capable of surviving and everybody around the club shares the same belief.” Read more at http://www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/c...lla-park-3-3-2383477.aspx#5u3LF8FDArIYwH60.99
And here's Sherwood's.................. Tim Sherwood spoke of his frustration following the 3-3 draw with QPR. Christian Benteke bagged a hat-trick on the night but his efforts were cancelled out by goals from Matty Phillips, Clint Hill and Charlie Austin. Sherwood was impressed with the performance of his talismanic striker but deeply disappointed the team couldn't gather up the three points. He felt his team warranted the maximum haul, especially given their dominant first half performance against Rangers. He said: "It was disappointing to get a point after we dominated the football match like that. The ref should have stopped it at half-time, shouldn't he! "Over the period, I thought we tired in the second half to be honest, but it's to be expected. "Two of the back four have trained four days in about eight weeks so we dropped off too deep and we couldn't keep that pressure on them. "I am not sure how many shots they had - maybe five - and they scored three. So it's disappointing to come away and not win that game. "But it's not about what you deserve it's about what you get. We actually got one point. "We stuck it on them, especially in the first half, and we played at a high tempo and they couldn't settle. We kept Bobby and Charlie away from the goal. "But in the second half there was an inevitable fatigue from our back four, we dropped and there was a bit too much space between the back and the strikers." On Benteke's performance, he continued: "They don't come much better than that! "He's a good player. I have always said it. "He's in a rich vein of form at the moment. I am pleased for him. "It's fantastic to see him score the goals, it's just a shame we couldn't take the three points." The point means Villa are now 16th in the Barclays Premier League - three points away from the bottom three. Sherwood remains philosophical about the situation. He added: "It could be a vital point come the end of the season. "When you're going so late into the game and Christian has to pull that one out of the bag, we're grateful for that. "But anyone who watched that football match knows it shouldn't have been close. "It's good to stay out of the bottom three."
The man watched a different game to me. It was clearly a game of two halves Mr. Sherwood. Villa won the first half, QPR won the second half. In the end, your team were LUCKY to get a point as you equalised so late Accept it with some grace. A draw was a fair result. Nice upbeat interview from Ramsey. The difference in eloquence between the two is unbelievable.
Sherwoods antics on the touchline are pathetic.... Shocking defending for their first two but Im going to predict we will only lose one more game.......
Perfect summary Eamonn, totally agree with your sentiments - I just wish we could have hung for you to witness an amazing victory for us.
Heard Sherwood on the radio saying he was disappointed not to have won a one sided match. What a cock. The first half was theirs, but we were the better team for much of the second. You can't argue against that. Show some humility sherwood, you nob jockey.
