QPR transfer news: Chris Ramsey wants eight additions by the end of June please log in to view this image On the ball: New Rangers midfielder Ben Gladwin, who has joined from Swindon SIMON JOHNSON please log in to view this image Published: 29 May 2015 Updated: 12:12, 29 May 2015 Queens Park Rangers manager Chris Ramsey hopes to sign eight more players before pre-season training begins on June 29 following their double swoop earlier this week. The club agreed a deal worth up to £3.5million with Swindon for midfielders Massimo Luongo and Ben Gladwin and are in talks with striker Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, who is a free agent. The release of 10 first-team players has shaved £11m off the wage bill at Rangers but has left them with a depleted squad after relegation. Ramsey said: “We want to make sure that whatever happens we don’t start pre-season with a shallow squad. “We want to get most of them in before we start pre-season training on June 29. The last thing we want is still to be signing players a week before the season starts.” Among the players who Rangers let go were experienced campaigners such as Joey Barton, Bobby Zamora, Rio Ferdinand, Richard Dunne and Shaun Wright-Phillips. Clint Hill, Alejandro Faurlin and Karl Henry have been offered new contracts on reduced terms and Ramsey admits the club had no choice but to take such drastic action. He added: “It’s always difficult when players leave clubs. You form relationships with them, albeit in a short period. “The players gave their all to try to keep the club in the Premier League. We weren’t able to complete our task and the club finds itself in a position where it needs to look forward and go in a different direction, both with personnel and financially. “It’s not always black and white over who you release or don’t. Given our situation, the club needs to drastically reduce its wage bill and change how we have conducted ourselves.” Ramsey hinted that Dunne, who has had an impressive two seasons at the club, could still get a new deal, while Faurlin’s agreement still depends on his fitness. The midfielder suffered his third serious knee injury in as many seasons last August and missed the rest of the campaign. Ramsey said: “He started to train with us towards the end of the season and showed an unbelievable appetite for the game. “His recovery appears to be complete now and we will continue to take a look at his knee and see how it holds up.” Meanwhile, Ramsey has revealed that Charlie Austin is the only Rangers player who has been the subject of enquiries from other clubs. http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/foo...ht-additions-by-the-end-of-june-10284156.html
The really interesting subject now is which players are going to be sold and for how much money. Austin's going, just a matter of how much for I'm assuming Ramsey will look to sell Fer, Sandro, Taarabt, Traore and Hoillett and listen to offers for anyone else who's subject of a bid. (Green, Caulker, Onouha, Phillips) I'd say 8 players is the minimum we need....
So the next 30 days should be quite exciting! So far there are many positives and it will be extremely interesting to see what squad of players Chris Ramsey will have at his disposal come 29th June. ....but I just hope we do not have some major "downer" in the form of the FFP, or some other self-inflicted disaster!
I'd like to see us keep Austin, Green, Fer, Caulker, Onouha, Phillips, and potentially even Hoillett. The main 3 on that list (Tarbs, Traore, Sandro can jog on in my opinion.) With the 2 lads that signed yesterday i'd say another 8 to go along with whats left will leave us with a nice little group of 22-25 players.
"Ramsey has revealed that Charlie Austin is the only Rangers player who has been the subject of enquiries from other clubs." The only bad news I've read this week! We need an Arthur Daily type salesman to get rid of Tubby, Traore, Sandro and Hoilett as well as a massive tabloid gossip-monger who can convince everyone that Charlie's "dodgy" knee is about to explode.
I'm glad that those at the top seem to have realised that Rome wasn't built in a day. Without the pressure of needing to get straight back to the Prem there is a chance to get younger players in and build a stable team over a couple of seasons who won't be past it by the time we are ready to place and a cohesive unit! The players who have gone have all been over 30. The only 30+ players who remain are Green (36 in Jan), Hill (37 in October) and Henry (33 in November). The next eldest are Faulin and Onuoha, both 28. (Incidently, Grego-Cox and Onuoha share a birthday ... 12th November, but 10 years apart.)
Green - no (there´s always a howler in there) need a younger option Caulker - no (don´t need any more gangstas) The others will leave, they should want premiership football. The ShishKing, the other gangsta and the wet-back I will personally fly over and get them a taxi.
Nice what was said about Ale too, I would keep keep him like a shot as long as the contract has the get out clauses required. Just hoping FFP gets chucked out for being illegal elitest rubbish (expecting a fine, nowhere near the 50 mill touted). Be interesting to see who we get in, and looking forward to a better season with a lower profile and a lot less drama around the club
I'd personally like us to build the defence around Caulker as I feel he owes us and has the ability to reach his full potential. Phillips and Onouha would be good retainers, although I'd expect Phillips would want a swift return to the Prem where he's proved himself. It's Alex McCarthy's turn to be Number 1, we need a clean break from Green who's not getting any younger and who's inability to kick a ball properly riles me. Realistically we're not keeping hold of Austin and I actually believe we may have got his best years anyhow. Undecided on Fer. His laziness irritates me but when played as a Number 10 he's very effective. Especially if he's surrounded by energetic players.
Tend to agree, Caulker has been bad this season, but not as bad as some make out, from what I read he isn't on crazy money either (think he turned Palace down who offered more). By the looks of it there should be a new feel around the club next season and under performers such as Caulker will hopefully find a new lease of life. Possibly on my own but I would like to see Sandro given a chance, with some different plyers around him, he could shine. Two players whose large transfer fees didn't help, also I don't know where everyone is getting that we spent 10 mill on Sandro, from what I saw in the more trustworthy media it was 6M (which yes is still a lot I know). hoping for a sunnier future
If we subtract Gladwin's slide-rule passes and Luongo's box to box calculations from the equation, I think it's clear that any further additions may allow divisions in the squad to multiply and turn the whole exercise into a zero sum game.
Our only hope of getting rid of Caulker and Sandro is that Harry gets another job in the Premier league.
Not sure what happened there. How refreshing to hear the manager talk common sense. "I want to get them in before pre-season training starts" as opposed to. waiting until the eve of the window closing and telling us how he'd like to sign someone FOR SURE Gary but you know, it's hard. No one wants to sign on the sort of money he can offer. By that he clearly insinuated that Tone was being tight with his wad because presumably he was not prepared to upgrade us into the football world's sixth biggest spender on wages. Would love to know how much Harold made in bungs in his deadline day wheelings and dealings. But then I suspect so would he as it must have been someone else he left to do the transactions -defo not his fault if players or agents wanted to make a gift to thank him for the opportunity to play for him. He must sleep soundly knowing that he has managed to make so many lovely boys' dreams come true. What I could not understand during the 'Harry is a saint' years is why so many thought he 'd be good for us because he would attract good players whereas other apparently could not
There's a reason he wants to get them in before pre season starts, the club are now looking at younger players who due to less experience need more time to settle in to the club... Personally I think it's the way forward, a team full of hunger and drive can't be a bad thing...
We'll have Robinson back too, another young player with something to prove. With all the younger players, makes sense to keep Hill for another season. Never thought I'd say this, but wouldn't be a bad thing for Henry to take up his option as well.
