Ramsey feels the competition among top level managers combined with racial prejudice mean who could face a long spell away from the game if QPR sack him

    Thursday 02 April 2015

QPR manager Chris Ramsey admits both competition and racial prejudice will make it very difficult for him to get another manager's job if he is sacked at Loftus Road this summer.
Ramsey, who is currently the only black manager in the Barclays Premier League, has overseen five consecutive defeats since he was appointed Harry Redknapp's permanent successor in February.
Former England winger John Barnes complained this week that black managers do not get as many second chances in coaching and Ramsey agrees he will struggle if let go by Rangers at the end of the campaign.

John Barnes claims black managers struggle for second chances
Allardyce in the frame to replaces Ramsey at QPR
QPR director of football Les Ferdinand, who recommended Ramsey's appointment to chairman Tony Fernandes, claimed last month that "covert racism" remains rife in the English game.

Ramsey will remain in charge of QPR until the end of the season Ferdinand also called for the implementation of a law similar to America's 'Rooney Rule', which ensures National Football League coaches from minority backgrounds are interviewed for available jobs.
"There maybe needs to be more awareness in the game of different factors that affect why people get jobs or not," Ramsey said.
"Just because I'm sitting here I'm not now going to change my views of many, many years.
"The fact we're still highlighting that I'm the only black Premier League manager shows it's not the norm to have people from ethnic minorities in this position.
"Until that becomes normal and it's not highlighted in such a spectacular fashion, that racism will be evident.

Ferdinand believes there remains a 'covert racism' in football "It's been no secret, I've said that in the past. I'm in a very fortunate position to be manager of QPR but I'm not here as a token gesture, I've earned my stripes to be in this position.
"There are others who are more talented, or better suited from a profile point of view - there are people who should have had jobs of this magnitude.
"It shows there is covert racism in the game."

To be completely honest my friend the Irish Midget said exactly the same thing to me last week.

"how many Irish Midgets are there in the Premier league" he looked up and asked me?

Not Enough was the answer, Not enough.

Content of character is all that matters, oh yeah and not whinging all day. Results come a big fat second eh?

Can our media department please go have a word with Tony, this needs to stops pretty sharpish. Relegation dog fight, remember........

    FFS!!
How about concentrating on trying to play the right players in the right positions and actually winning a game as opposed to frying all those chips on your shoulder Chris?

To be fair.....I bet he gets asked these sort of questions all the time....and he may say things about the state of pies at LR, or whether we should play in thicker hoops because they are luckier....but the only thing they quote is his statements on racism....

Because after all he is unique in the Premier League...

It is not his fault...I am sure he doesn't want to become the "posterboy" for all anti racist groups, he just wants to become a successful manager

You answer the question you are asked. I suspect he didn't ask to talk about these matters. That's the Press.

This is true, but managers also have the freedom to decline getting involved if they wish

The Journos at our pre-match Pressers are dreadful. They spend 11 of the 12 minutes asking questions about everything and anything other than QPR and then we wonder when our Manager's come out with stuff that we thought would be the least thing on their minds. If they refused to answer non-QPR related questions the Pressers would last about a minute. (On the other hand, it might force the clowns in the room to ask him stuff relating to the team he's supposed to be Managing)

......and they would soon be out of a job if they have nothing to write. I would like to think that would help focus the press conferences a bit more :emoticon-0148-yes:

Is it just me, or if John Barnes applied for a job with your company would anyone else's first thought be:

"I'd better not hire him, because if it doesn't work out and he's crap at the job I'm really going to struggle to get rid of him without him damaging the company by claiming it's a race thing?"

To be clear, I wouldn't have this issue if it were Chris Powell or another of the black managers not to have made comments this week, but with 50%+ of managers in England losing their job each season, Barnes by making these claims every few months makes it almost impossible to hire him even if you don't know he's a really bad manager anyway.

The more I hear from CR, the more I realise the man is way out of his depth.

If he plays Hoilett tomorrow ahead of Vargas he will have confirmed it, not for the first time.
