Former Arsenal forward Emmanuel-Thomas scored twice in the first half to take his goal tally for the season to 20, hammering home a low drive from the edge of the box in the 16th minute before curling a glorious shot past Sam Johnson on the stroke of the interval. That put City 4-0 up at the break after Emmanuel-Thomas had also provided the 41st-minute long throw that led to Nyron Nosworthy heading home and Baldock fired the third after poor Vale defending had given him room inside the area. Vale had Carl Dickinson sent off after 67 minutes for a second yellow card, earned for a late challenge on Emmanuel-Thomas, having been booked just seconds earlier. And Baldock completed an emphatic win by running onto Wade Elliott's 74th-minute through ball to fire in his 22nd goal of the campaign. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image So good I had to celebrate TODAY as well. http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/pictur...Vale/pictures-20852695-detail/pictures.html#8
We performed very well. I hesitate to say excellently because there were still too many instances of giving the ball away too easily or missing gilt edged chances. But let us not forget that Port Vale , while losing heavily and down to ten for the last 25 minutes, were nowhere near the worst team we have seen this season at the Gate. In fact I thought that for the first thirty minutes, the looked a lot better than us. Keeping the ball well although somewhat toothless in front of goal. And remember at 1-0, the fantastic double save by Fielding. He did the same in the last home game v Swindon, so IMO has gotten over his bad start back in August. All in all, and taking our last 13 games into account, we have turned the corner and should now look forward with anticipation to a more successfully time next season.
funny you should say that, vale moved the ball around very well, and by no means are anywhere near the worst teams to come to the gate.
Lets celebrate the biggest win in quite a while and hope that next season we can continue to score for fun whilst shoring up the defence and cut out some of the mistakes. Then we might just be promotion or play off contenders in what will still be a tough league still. I don't see any threat coming from L2 next year like Rotherham have been this season, but there may be the likes of Millwall, or Charlton, Barnsley, Yeovil etc, and then there will be Sheff Utd and whoever doesn't go up this year from Preston, Rotherham, Peterborough, Brentford etc.
Not complaining, but the score line did flatter us, as well as we played. I said to my wife as Fielding made that save- That he had no right to make that save at and that it would have been 1-1 if it wasn't for that save(s).Early in the 2nd half, I repeated that quote. As an ex keeper myself, I am well aware that , that sort of detail is often overlooked
Would Man Utd have won a treble in 1999 had they not possessed the worlds best keeper in Schmeichel ? Personally I thought our midfield began to grow in stature and belief for the first time once we were a couple to the good, and some of our link play was of Championship standard Its taken SC half a season, but he is now getting there and the whole club are now optimistic of a big push for next season.
