Has he done enough to start against the Saints? Maybe up front?? Breath of Fresh air to our team. Great pace good shot & great movement. Nunez or Gradel to start up front for me, with the other either supporting or wide.
i reckon he'll probably start, he definaitely looks lively enough and is probably our best player of pre-season
I'd probably give him more credit for some of his transfers than most people who attack me for criticising him. But he's still the worst manager of all time, so it's hard to be positive about him.
Clive, you keep forgetting the all important "I think" when you're stating your views as fact! Just because you think it doesn't make it true, however much you wish it was so. I personally think if we'd have thrown Nunez in at the deep end last season he could have faltered, I may be wrong but like I say, we don't know what would have happened with Nunez because it didn't!
He'll be sub, he'll play Howson, Clayton and Brown, Paynter up front, Nunez will be a sub sadly, He shd deffinately start, behind the front two, glad to see I was right all along, I was bigging up Nunez this time last year!!! on the other hand Perhaps Nunez and Gradel were on the nench last nite because theyve sealed there first team places already?? I reli hope so
I can see some sense in SOME of the things you write but is it any wonder you are not taken seriously when you state garbage like that? I am not Graysons best fan but he is the right man for the job at present. Would you argue with facts and figures or do you assume worst of all time because you dislike him?
We would never have made the play-offs if we'd played Nunez, he desperately needed to be loaned out to get a feel for English football. The only way I see him starting is if Larry decides to move Howson back alongside Brown in which case Nunez would take his place. But as I see it Howson has earned his position behind the striker and it's Nunez' job to take that position from him, and I'm afraid some good games in pre-season isn't enough to do that.
I am pretty sure they will both start Simon21 I think both him and Howson will be told to get up and support the loan striker with Brown guarding the back 4, more like a 4-1-4-1
He's been our most impressive player in pre season so I reckon he'll start up front or just off a striker, with Howson further back alongside Brown. Who's he going to start upfront with through?!
i really dont know paynter really isnt good enough, i doubt he'd play mccormack upfront on his own despite him trying it out against sandejford. I reckon we might even play 442 with mccormack and nunez upfront or gradel and nunez upfront even with snoddy and maybe mendy or sam wide. Playing a diamond midfield with brown defensive and howson attacking. Damn i should be a manager Lonergan Connolly Kisnorbo Andy O'Brien Bodor Brown Mendy/Sam Snodgrass Howson Nunez Gradel Thats what i reckon we should do providing we sign Bodor and no one else. which im bloody hoping we sign someone else
I'm fully aware of how strong it is, and that it can seem like a ridiculous overstatement to say that Grayson is the worst manager of all time, but it's what I genuinely believe. I've been following football for 20 years and seen managers do crazy things, but the way Grayson operates is farcical. I argue with facts and figues all the time, pay attention to my posts. I'm more fair than most fans. If you think I talk sense then perhaps I'm right about Grayson but you just can't, or don't want to, see it. Simon, how long did it take Nunez to get a feel for English football at Scunthorpe? How long did it take Somma to get a feel for English football at Lincoln? How long did it take Becchio to get a feel for English football when McAllister threw him straight in for us? I'd rather have you as manager than Grayson, Josh. I agree with you about Paynter. Ideally, you need a player of his type for the others to play off, but he's so poor that you're better off having quality on the field. Snodgrass would probably be better up front than Nunez to give us some height and aerial ability.
out of curiosity I check what Clivetime has said and for the first time since I've been on this board he's said something that isn't just larry bashing... I think Snodgrass would actually do quite well up front as a holding centre forward, certainly better than Paynter and would more than cover for Becchio while he's out. Of course, he wouldn't score as many as Becchio, but I'm sure he'd set up more and he'd cause defenses more problems... I've never thought of it before but he has good aerial ability, a lot of strength and amazing vision. All that and he's far pacier than that donkey paynter. What's everyone elses thoughts?
but then Simon we come across the issue of out of 4 strikers, we have 2 capable of scoring goals and both of those are currently injured. Out of the other 2, one is supposedly a strong, holding-type centre forward who has less talent than me and I can't even kick a ball properly with my weak foot, and the other has bags of skill but no confidence and no end product. In our current situation, playing Sam on the wing and Snodgrass up front in a holding role would be a far better bet than playing that useless **** Paynter up front. Snodgrass would provide a marksman such as Nunez or Gradel or even McCormack the time and space to get into dangerous positions and score goals, whilst also proving a handful for centrebacks, something paynter just doesn't do. Snodgrass has been played as a centre forward (and even a striker) before, and he can do it again. He definitely has the credentials. I just wanted to see what other people's opinions on his ability to fill that role better than Paynter while Becchio is out.
But Paynter and McCormack proved themselves as a partnership last season. There is no point moving our best players from their best positions when we have them available, whatever you think of Paynter.
over 2 games, they did ok. I wouldn't have called it "proving themselves", especially when Paynter has been a donkey so far in preseason and the confidence you'd expect McCormack to have gained at the end of last season has magically evaporated. I'd love to be proven wrong. The more cult heroes in my team, the better. Maybe they'll do better this season with Brown running the centre mid allowing Howson more freedom to go forward even in a 4-4-2 to give them support. I want to see Paynter do something useful I just can't for the life of me see it happening. And I want to with all my heart see McCormack give an end product, and at the end of the season I thought maybe we don't have to rely so heavily on Becchio anymore and maybe next season macca will tear up the league, but after he's missed 2 penalties under no real pressure, his confidence will be shot. Again. It wasn't a case of moving our best players out of position. I think Snodgrass would do exceptionally well up there. It wouldn't be an issue because we have so many players capable of doing so much on the wing that it was never going to be an issue. I just don't want to see another season of relying on the wingers heavily and having those positions overloaded with spares and struggling to fill the other positions because we're scared to move Snodgrass out of his best position or whatever. Noone has any issue putting Gradel up front as a pacey marksman, because we all know it works and he gets results. I don't see how putting Snodgrass up as a holding centre forward and having another one of our many talented wingers step up is a problem.
Simon, after saying that Paynter and McCormack proved themselves as a partnership last season, you now have no credibility whatsoever. I'm no longer going to waste my time responding to you.
