28 years old and already selling out for, I presume, mega wages in China.

Probably could have gone to a number of top European clubs and won more medals and achieved more, but moves to Jiangsu Suning instead

Represents everything that is wrong with a modern footballer these days.

I can understand footballers making the move for the last couple of years of their careers, as most footballers will need the money they make up to the age of 35 to last the rest of their lives.

But at 28 ? he is at his peak, and probs at least has another 3 years in him at the top level

Most if not all PL players must be millionaires after a couple of seasons. They're so much out of touch with the rest of us that you'll occasionally hear of players holding out for 40, 50, 100 grand a week! A WEEK!!!

Your journeyman 10 year PL player could happily retire at 35 and never work again. Neither would his kids probably.

The problem is that too much is never enough.

It's the lifestyle tho!! If your making all that cash buying super cars fancy holidays big houses. Then at 35 you all of a sudden have to cut back on the lifestyle, I can see why they do it..

Get as much as you can while you can IMO.

I'd do the same, footballs not the same as before when it actualy ment something to players.

When you're 70 years old and no 'supporter' even remembers your name, what does a medal taste like?

Won everything there is to win in football... Why shouldn't he do what the **** he wants and earn some easy money... Would you lot pick less money to go to your family for the sake of what? A couple of extra medals.

Don't understand the frame of mind whatsoever.

I would stay because of my love for the sport, the chance to win medals, loyalty and professionalism.

He'll play more in China than he would have at Chelsea.

Danny Graham would probably say he stayed at Sunderland so long for the love of the sport.

I was taking the piss, mate. I'd be the first one on the plane.

These lads are doing it for an extra 100k a week, I'd go to China for one grand a week extra!

Depends what the quality of life is like out there, healthcare for your kids, education, it's not all about money.

He could have went to a top European side for less money probably and played more competitively, at his level.

I'd never live in China, you only get one life and I certainly wouldn't waste part of mine living among people I have fundamental issues with as a nation.

If it was me I'd recognise what a rare thing it is to be a top class footballer and make the absolute most of my career. He'll already be rich beyond most of our wildest dreams but when he's an old man looking back it'll be the memories of his time as a footballer that'll be his fondest and by following the money he's robbing himself of those memories while he's at his peak.

Having worked in China, I can confirm it is somewhere I would not want to live. If I have to go there again it will be too soon.

They must be getting paid some silly amount of money.

To be honest the premier league is massive out there, they are all Man Utd fans.

Not for me personally. I'd see the world, make my dosh and enjoy my life.

If he was top, top class I'd say otherwise but I don't think he is.
