Ralph Krueger, speaking to Simon Peach at the Southampton Boat Show last week: "I can't tell you what it is, but something's in the works. It's clear for all that there was a turning point in the club in 2009. We need to keep that in mind & we will" Peach says that Ralph told him there will be an announcement on what the tribute will be, soon. DTLW
Krueger: "The respect for Markus and the legacy that needs to live on here and Katharina is of course adamant about that. It is clear for all of us that there was a turning point in the club in 2009 and we need to keep that in mind and we will. People will see that in the near future."
Is it going to be a crane? That would be cool. A crane that can swing over the main stand and release ther match ball every home game Every time I see a crane I think of Markus even if it doesn't have Liebherr written down the side.
Surely this will put to bed the idea that Katharina is selling the club...she'd hardly consider a memorial to her father at a place she's be leaving in the near future.
Could be naming a stand or the Academy or a statue, but I wonder if they are thinking more in the line of something charitable. Would be good if it benefitted the city as a whole and gain more widespread respect for his name.
Not sure, though - little chance there'd be a tribute by anyone else, so if she doesn't do one, no one will. If she's going to sell it, might as well get that in place beforehand. I have no view on whether or not she will sell, by the way. I imagine not, for a while anyway. But think it's as likely she might do this either way.
Maybe a crane on the Itchen bridge, so, for any player who wants to leave, we can swing them to Pompey?
Staplewood is what I believe it's going to be. New complex was his and Nicola's vision and Nicola said Markus wandered around the training ground and used to have a lot of input on improvements to the facilities. The new complex still hasn't been officially opened yet, and Saints said it would be at a suitable time... The Markus Liebherr Development Centre, anyone?
Unless she feels guilty that she is selling the club so is making some form of amends? I don't think this is the case by the way lol
I like the idea of naming the Academy...links him permanently to the idea of developing the club rather than just a structure that was already here.
I always thought the new Academy building was going to be named after Markus Liebherr anyway. I think Nicola Cortese said as much when he planned it.
