Also we have to remember that Southampton have the second lowest transfer spend in the Premier League (£25m net) since Ralph Hasenhüttl was appointed in December 2018. He’s also lost key assets like Ings & Højbjerg, yet he keeps steering them clear of the relegation battle. Definitely Ralph in.
I still question how much of an Højbjerg was. Always felt he was a bit over rated. For what’s it’s worth glad we have stuck with Ralph, and didn’t know who would of been able to do a better job, when I voted I just felt we needed a change somewhere. Glad that it seems to have been a change in the squads fighting attitude
I think like most of the squad he wasn't the finished article and didn't stay the distance so never really reaped the benefits that we are now seeing with the likes of Romeu and JWP who keep getting better and better. One of the main reasons I am so supportive of Ralph is that even when the results haven't been great the bigger picture is so positive, the style of play, the chances being created and the individual improvements. I think its now widely accepted outside our base that Ralph is a very good coach. I don't expect us to take off to the moon anytime soon but if he can keep squeezing out the improvements he's doing well.
I would add that Ralph is not the finished article but he too is getting better and better and we surely have exciting times ahead with him at the helm I love the guy, proper man crush, best manager in my time I reckon. He has done wonders with us during his tenure while Gao was trying to sell, now the shackles will be off, I can only see us improving. I hope I'm not naive but I feel he will be with us for a long time, not going elsewhere at the first sign of a so called big club calling and not getting sacked. We are so lucky to have the guy, I can't believe there are any Saints fans who think he should go.
This. Ever since the takeover it feels like a massive weight has been lifted off Ralph's shoulders. The fact that we couldn't spend without selling was hanging over the club like a bad smell. I'm particularly looking forward to seeing who we bring in in the summer. Even if we fail in bringing Broja back we have the resources and the scouting to replace him well.
Sofa, you've cleverly left an implied word between 'an' and Hojbjerg'. The obvious missing words (allowing for the fact that it needs to start with a vowel): Asset? Arsehole? Absolute plonker?
Suspect that it was a worse feeling than simply not being able to spend, really. If we didn't get investment, we were going to probably going to make difficult decisions to remain solvent. If we didn't find a buyer before summer, it's entirely possible that the edict would have come down that Crocker had to start selling players to raise funds.
I agree. Just saying that it likely went beyond the usual "manager wants team to throw money at squad".
Ha! And I also happened to post that on the day when my mum was talking about how she is teaching sentence structure in her classes. (The answer was a) Asset)
Would Hojbjerg get in our team now? We started playing better after we dropped him when he made it clear he was leaving That may have been linked to the post lockdown effect
You can change it back again then. You have said that you are OK with Ralph staying, so why does your vote say the opposite?
