Actually it kills slightly more than the strong bout of flu. The big problem is that there is no vaccine yet. So it will run its course until it dies out or a vaccine is developed that stops it short. There is no need to panic, but let's not laugh at it. Anyone of us could bring it home, affect an elderly relative and accidentally bump them off while we just have a bad runny nose and a wobbly couple of days. Failure of imagination is the problem here.
Agree with this. I am not panicking about this, but I am extremely concerned for the effect the virus could have on those with pre-existing illness. My wife has lung cancer, her sister has COPD and I have a sister with a heart condition. All three would be vulnerable should they come into contact with this, so where it is important for people not to over react, it is also important not to trivialise people’s fear of it.
Can only control the controllables. Take precautions that you can, but carry on living....just as people did during the war*. *Not actually likening it to WWII, but pointing out the need for a sense of proportion.
One thing that has concerned me on here is the hysteria trying to be created by the media. It can easily be controlled, here in this city (a population over 1 million) a total of 18 people were infected, they have all now recovered. In this city, we were in lockdown for about three weeks. While I cannot see the UK agreeing to such an extreme measure it certainly helped to contain the virus here. Life is slowly returning to normal here now, it will be some time before the city of Wuhan and Hubei province will be returning to normal though.
Going to be enormous downturn for a while at Eastleigh. Said one expert: "It's small in the scale of the UK market as a whole, but if you're flying out of Exeter, Newquay or specifically Southampton it really is one of the only airline choices, indeed in Southampton it accounts for about 95% of the activity at that airport, so a number of regional groups will risk not being served."
I want to know what the process would be for getting a new airline to pick up the flights. You would hope that one would just be able to buy the old flybe planes and get them on the old routes. But it's obviously going to be more complicated than that. The bookings for the summer will have already been cancelled and all the while the airport would presumably be receiving little to no income. Hopefully the government will help the airport until it's back in its feet. I checked what my MP for southampton was doing but royston has just said "oh nooo, I hope the airport can sort it out" or something like that. So I'm not holding out great hope.
The Robin I got to take food from my hand now comes to the kitchen window so I don't even need to go outside.
You joke but if I leave the back door open it comes in and has a look around. I'll get some mealworms in and we could have a "meet the neighbours party".
Well, it seems Loganair and Eastern are stepping in to grab routes including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Manchester. They were probably the ones complaining about the Governments proposed "financial help", which didn't materialise, and in effect speeded up the demise?
