Got up this morning, to find a 3' high illuminated snowman outside my house. It's not mine, don't know whose it is or who put it there. It's the 3rd or 4th Christmas decoration that's been left there over the last couple of years, including reindeer and penguins. I could perhaps understand it if people still had their decorations up, but they haven't so bit baffled.
It's Wiltshire! Probably some weird fertility rite. Or it's tribute from the peasants...who knows what goes on in their minds
Wife does plants, don't want to step on her toes. I've just told her that people have commented on her crap planting though and she vows to sort it out
Remember a while back we were discussing some of the buildings in Southampton, such as Wyndham Court. I mentioned how the Solent Flour Mill was my favourite in the city. Well... https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/18187674.solent-flour-mills-southampton-set-demolished/
Any of you watch the Harvey Weinstein documentary last night? Holy ****, I knew he was scum, but didn't realise just how bad his depraved actions were. Allegedly. Trial still ongoing.
I like it a lot too. I honestly thought it was a listed building. It's problem is that it is behind the port barrier, so anything other than industrial re-purposing is a non-starter. I used to drive up to it and turn right to proceed past Martini on my way to STC. I don't think there was a single day whereby I was lost in thoughts enough not to notice that building and give it a special look. I recall the end of one shift at STC where I had to go up a silo ladder, at night, cold, gusting wind and rain, and then transfer to a wobbly platform and out over the top of another cable silo. Must have been 80-100ft between me and the bottom. The next day, I stopped the car by the flour mill and counted the bricks going up the building until I got to about the same height. That made me shiver.
That's disgraceful to even consider demolition. I suppose they could replace it with a bland 1950/60's style building that Southampton high street is full of. I hope the council can come to some sort of agreement with ABP but doubt it. The comments section in that Echo article makes you despair with the attitude of some of our residents. Should be preserved at any cost.
