i think he was on the list as a candidate but we have to take the word of the board that we only ever approached one of them and that was hughton. west brom certainly spoke to him, maybe that's confused the issue. its difficult to tell how good he is cos at hoffenheim he had so much money! also, he does have a tendency to quit as far as i know. having said that, one of my best friends is a massive schalke 04 fan and he loves him!! he would probably have moved over here if he'd become our manager <laugh>

I did not even know he was in the frame. Like you I have a good mate who is a Schalke fan who thinks he walks on water.
 
DM said, if I remember correctly, that, in addition to CH, the board's search took in "a German, a Spaniard, a Scot and two Italians"; however CH had been "identified" a year ago as preferred replacement if PL jumped ship, and always led the field; no-one else was approached. If others had been approached the matter could not have been tied up so swiftly.
