from Sunderland Echo, an attempt to put Sunderland high up on Twitter trending topics to raise awareness of our City.

"Is Sunderland set for a cyberspace sonic boom?

Residents and lovers of the city are being asked to take to social media to share their pride and passion across the internet.

Organisers of the initiative hope that on Friday at 5pm, Sunderland will be in the eye of a social media storm as people who live and work in the city and those who know and love it, share images, memories and stories of why they love the city, using #WearHere in their social media posts.

Passion for the city will drive the virtual flash mob with the aim of getting #WearHere trending across Twitter.

People posting images of the city are also urged to point at the locations, views, buildings or people in Sunderland that mean something to them.

Gary Hutchinson, commercial director of Sunderland AFC and chairman of the Sunderland Business Group, is backing #WearHere, saying it’s a chance for people to show off their home city.

He said: “What lifts #WearHere above the usual glossy branding of a city, is that we are not telling people what is great about Sunderland, they are telling us and everybody else.

“We want people to show us what makes the city such a unique and vibrant place to them. The success of #WearHere will be down to the people of Sunderland. We are not asking them to push out marketing material across Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, we want them to become our marketing material.

“#WearHere is as much about instilling and fuelling a shared pride in our city as it is telling people outside the city how great we have it on Wearside.”

To be a part of the #WearHere event share what you love about the city on July 24 at 5pm using the hashtag. Anyone who is happy for images to be used by media can tag @SunderlandVibe."

Absolute shed load going on that I've recently found out about that's not too well advertised. Over £750m investment in the City committed / secured over next 6 years. The new bridge we know about but there's the start of finally doing something with the Vaux site kicked off this week with £100m kitty as well as new housing at Warden Law ( behind Mill Hill ) and Seaburn ( behind Morrisons ). Big push to get more involved with Northern Powerhouse to make sure we aren't excluded by the North West and Yorkshire :emoticon-0150-hands

@Safc83 next time I'm in London I'll take a snap of the derelict dump that's been mouldering for at least 5 years opposite Green Park on Picadilly - it's easy to highlight the bad but at least there's a concerted effort to move the City forward. If we always focus on the bad all we'll have is a reputation as a dump and we'll continue to slide in to decay.
