Hull city backing the campaign in its second year, must say its the first ive heard of it. Sounds a good campain though, Joey Barton backing it too, which is a suprise but raises my opinion of him. Maybe we should get some rainbow laces on here with the amount of homophobic abuse Fuse lit !
It shouldn't be surprising, Joey Barton has spoken out against homophobia on a number of occasions and also appeared on that disappointing programme about homophobia in football that John Fashanu's daughter did.
I didnt realise that, thats why it suprised me. If i did realise that then obviously I wouldn't have been suprised
Oh I expected this thread to be about sweets. Seriously if it gets people talking about homophobia then it's a good thing.
Yeah fair enough. Seriously though he's a bit of a lone voice as far as high profile footballers go, and it is to be hoped that others will follow in his footsteps. We really shouldn't need to be having this conversation in 2014, and gay footballers (of which statistically there must be many) shouldn't have to hide their sexuality in this day and age.
I agree anything which gets people talking about the subject is great but it can also have a negative impact & for me is another case of telling people how to think. Will someone for example who chooses not to wear them be labelled homophobic ? Would a club telling their players to wear rainbow laces actually change anything ? Will it make someone who is homophobic suddenly not homophobic by wearing them ? However much you tell people homophobia is wrong, you cannot necessarily change how they feel. To some religious people homosexuality is considered a sin & they will always put their beliefs above what the government tells them.
Anyone who doesn't wear them is making a statement that they do not support the campaign. I'm sure people will be able to draw their own conclusions should that happen.
Glad I wasn't the only one And I agree, homosexuality is a sin that will anger the one true god. Tolerance of a sin will bring punishment to us all in the form of bad weather, poor crops etc.
Yes, they are faithful to their god and can look above small personal privileges at the bigger picture and what's best for the human race.
I know plenty of Christians who aren't homophobic. It's 2014. Are you a Christian or just a wind-up merchant?
No, no they're not. If someone does not want to wear them that is their choice. I support their right not to HAVE to wear them if they so choose for whatever reason. Education is the way to go, not wearing rainbow laces. We still have sexism so good luck to them with the homophobia.
It's their choice and their right. However the only reason they could have for not wearing them as that they don't support the campaign. Whether that be for religious reasons, well it may be, but the conclusion is the same.
