I read a report this morning that Raheem Sterling was nicknamed the ''Magician'' at QPR due to his amazing skills. They must have rated him highly.I reckon he's going to be one of Rafa's long lasting legacys to the club.I hope he progresses to the top, because he certainly looks top drawer. Mentioning ''Magicians'',that was the name I gave to Andrea Dossena,he did make 73,000 Man United fans disappear in 30 seconds.
It sure was,It was one hell of a week, destroying Real Madrid and their feeder club in the same week was something special.
Joe Cole already has this nickname in the Liverpool squad thanks to the disappearing act he has been performing since August 2010
Bozz. They used to say that about Lucas. He was nicknamed ''Lord Lucas'' due to amount of times he disappeared during games. Why is it that Shrek aka Mr Potato head aka the granny shagger hasn't got such a nickname?,as he disappears in big games,His 2 goals in 16 appearances against Liverpool is testament to that.
He's reliant on pace, but has skill too. *He's got better technique than Owen ever had, and can beat people with tricks as well as raw speed. *He's not as ruthless in front of goal as Owen though (he was last monday, but that isn't the norm), and I doubt he has the same level of maturity that Owen had at that age (very few have, Owen was out on his own in that respect).
Kenny thinks highly of him,but the thing is,Kenny is keeping him away from the hype.Kenny is doing his best to ensure his feet stay firmly on the ground,a lesser manager would have put him on the bench last week.Kenny is ensuring he learns to walk before he can run.Don't expect him to appear in the first team squad for a while,Kenny gave him a taste of it,and its up to young Raheem himself to get more and the only way he can do that is by performing consistently for the under 18s.Okay I know he is,but he has to keep to the same standard. If that standard drops expect Kenny to let him know immediately.Kenny has been through this himself. He'll treat Raheem Sterling in the same way Jock Stein treated him at the same age. He'll give him a taste and then take him back out,if he likes it,He'll perform, its also to ensure he remains two things...Motivated and hungry. If he is both of those, then theres no stopping him.
His old manager at qpr was on the radio the other day talking about him. He was saying that it was pointless playing him in his own age group as it was just far too easy for him and that he would have no problem stepping up despite physical size as this was the case at his former club. He started to put him in the team to give him a chance but then every time he played he was the invariably best player on the pitch making him undroppable!!
The lad seems to pass every challenge that is put in front of him.Against Southend(Okay I know it was only Southend) and Liverpool were already 6-0 up at half time.Rodolfo Borrell challenged him by switching him to the opposite flank. Most players and I include Ryan Giggs and Steve McManaman when they were young would have struggled as Giggs right foot was for standing on and Macca's left foot was likewise.Sterling seemed to thrive on his left foot as well as he did using his right.Okay his crossing isn't at the same level as his ability to dribble and come in side and his overall shooting accuracy. But for a little fella, and remember he's not the biggest,He's actually very strong, and he doesn't look strong.Liverpool have a serious talent on their hands,if he continues at the same standard for the next 4 years,He's going to be unstoppable.
Borrell was really getting on Sterling's case in the first half for being too selfish and not releasing the ball. I get the impression Borrell is worried about how Raheem will handle all the attention he's getting. *His comments after the 9-0 suggested he has concerns, but he's doing his best to keep the lad's feet on the ground.
