I dont think Rodgers should be sacked just yet, but would you take Rafa into any role at the club? Director of football maybe? (His tactical smarts would be wasted in this role...) Though worth better he could be the world greatest defensive coach. (though a war with Rodgers would seem inevitable) I do think Rafa could fix our defensive issues fast, and possibly with out even signing someone.
well hmmmm, firstly all that has happened is media have put 2 and 2 together to make 5. our current situation is crap, but we know rafa loves it on merseyside, and the fact his family is still here while he is in italy says it all, BUT, will be interesting to see if brendan is given any money in jan to spend, as firstly it will show me that the owners have faith in brendan still, otherwise why give him funds to waste if he is being replaced at end of season anyway? to secure CL you say, well he has spent over £100 mil already, would you as an owner want to give him more? i dont think he will be coming back personally, and all that will happen is he will stay with his family until he gets work elsewhere again. only thing that pisses me off is the team we could have had right now if he had been given the funds to spend other managers have been given since. we need to stick to a manager and hope it works long term or we will end up like spurs.
Yeah would have been great to see Rafa operating under non-cowboy actually interested and sympathetic owners.
I've been saying for a while that the old guard needed shifting on and Rodgers as nearly done this now, only Johnson, Skrtel, Lucas and Gerrard remain. I think at least three of those will go or be gone by the summer (although Brod seems to have a man crush on three of them). I've also said that as much as I'd love Rafa back, there as been rumours about how the dressing room was when he left. Therefore, I believe the old guard needs to go before Rafa can return. Considering the above, I think enough of them have or will have departed for a Rafa return. A clean slate so to speak.
Wouldn't have Rafa back tbh. Love the guy, and I think he's a great coach. Maybe some sort of Head of Development role because he understands the importance of youth and youth football.
I agree this is just a media dot-joining exercise. If his family still live here (why, ffs?) then it's only natural for him to come back. I feel we should move forward, not go back. BR needs more time, but if he doesn't make the grade, then we should go for someone new and progressive again. As for them working together, surely that would be the most strained collaboration since Churchill and Stalin?
Pretty much what I was getting at. I'm sure there were others too, we all know the Alonso issues too. However, if all those players have moved on then its a clean slate. Question is, would we want a guy who we know is a quality manager but can also upset the players?
depends which way you look at it, the way some of our current players have played lately i would say yes, as they need telling they are playing ****ing ****e and sort themselves out, not this bull that brendan does in saying how wonderful everyone is and just needs time to settle crap.
None of the top class players bad mouthed him - even Alonso has been complimentary towards Benitez. Gerrard and Carra wanted him out, but both have recognised that they played their best football under him. Players like Torres, Mascherano never said anything bad about him as well. It's only the fringe players who seemed to have a problem. And I suppose it depends on the make up of the player themselves - you get the sense that Gerrard and Carra like to have a joke at training and probs didnt like Rafa'a seriousness. Compare that to someone like Torres who was ultra professional etc etc.
If Brod was to leave, I'd like Rafa back. Having said that, I said we should have gone for Rafa before we got Brod too (before my above theory I'l add)
rafa ****ed himself, nobody else. he's the guy who is negotiating with napoli. its nuthn to do with lfc.
H&G ****ed him! there was nothing wrong with his transfer record, tactics or performance prior to their arrival.
I think Rodgers is doing a good job of upsetting certain players as well. Look at the ones who've left and come out and said he was the reason! All managers will have players who they get on with and those they don't. I would have Rafa back if BR left, no problem ... and I'm by no means advocating Rodgers out!
He wasn't perfect by any means but he was a brilliant coach. It's a shame how it ended because he spent far too much time on boardroom politics. Sacking him was a mistake. Replacing him with Hodgson was criminal.
