I have just been listening to a political discussion on Radio 4 regarding the Mali conflict and how France has taken the initiative to route Islam extremists in this part of Africa.

The discussion involved a French political commentator and defence expert and he explained one of the options that the French government have at their disposal, under constitutional laws maybe enforcing conscription for all French males(regardless of occupation, due EU equality legislature) aged under 30 if the dispute in Mali requires ongoing intervention or the unrest spreads.

My question is how would that impact upon all Premiership teams, discuss.

Think this is one big massive overreaction to be talking like that, surely they would only call up every single man under the age of 30 for a World War?

They were not saying it would happen today or tomorrow, rather that if it turned into an Iraq or Afghanistan conflict of a similar duration then France would have to be seen to be making provision for sustaining an armed presence.

It was pointed out that one major difference between the UK and France was the presence of conscription in the French constitution put into force post WW2.

Not being one to upset the PC twats.

Islam is mint & shariah law should be forced on the weak willed British scum.

I think acid attacks are great.

Hope that appeases Disco, the pc bellend, <ok>.

That whole area is the next **** storm.

Wouldnt be surprised if there was a prolonged conflict out there sooner rather than later.

Will we get involved? Its hard to say. With cuts to the military coming in, we dont have the capabilities to fight on two fronts.

That being said, the powers at be will still want to attempt to show the world that we are a massive power..

What I dont understand is why the West is willing to get involved in Mali but not in Syria etc.

In regards to the French conscription issue. Im sure it wouldnt come to that in the short to medium term.

This sort of thing has happened from the dawn of time and will continue to happen as long as we maintain the current international system.

I think France went in too soon. I personally think they should have let the situation develop further as was done in Libya.

Disco loves owt like that marra.

Don't dare defend your own in front of Disco or you will be labelled a racist.

I want Disco to have shariah law enforced on his family as he approves of it.

Am I the only one who think that our Hans has his tongue firmly in his cheek with this article? If it did happen the Skunks would have to play two cleaning ladies as their main strikers..<laugh>

Would not be surprised at all if this turns into another long term conflict however it may take time for it to reach such a state.

Until then any discussion is just that, discussion and conjecture.

Mind anything is possible as a far as the French go, they need a good display in a conflict to justify their defence budgets.

I reckon the new Frenchies up at NE1 have a far harder fight to avoid relegation than a piffling easy task of routing Islamist extremism out of Africa?;)

As many people on here will know, I'm a proactive supporter on measures to protect the environment, so I have went for an I10 1.2 litre engine, so I can say that I practice what I preach..
I was driving a 1.6 Toyota Auris, which I bloody hated due to its fuel consumption, so feel much better about this one..

Well if my son's family's experience is anything to go by you will not be disappointed with you Hyundai.

I have a Passat CC Blue Motion, just cause I need a decent sized boot and I travel quite a bit - its a company car.

Wife has Golf 1,6 tdi Match, £30 road tax so emissions must be good.
