Anyone else sick of hearing about racism? Its 2011, racism is dead, nobody cares!

I think I speak for the vast majority, of young people anyway, when I say I cant even describe how little the colour of someones skin matters to me.

One thing that annoys me is that some black people keep using the racism card, is calling someone a "whatever colour" bastard, any worse than calling someone a fat bastard? Not to me, but maybe thats because I dont give a **** what colour someone is and I would not be in the slightest bit bothered if someone called me a white bastard for example.

Racist jokes are more about stereotypes and shock value than any true hatred towards a race or colour. The vast majority of jokes attack a certain type of person or stereotype and make fun of it, but when colour comes into it, it becomes a whole different matter apparently.

Another thing is that you rarely if ever, hear of a racist who is not white. Are only whites racist? Is it impossible to be racist against whites or is every other colour just not racist? Obviously not but you would be forgiven for thinking that if you only went on mainstream news. I will admit that older generations where brought up to be racist against black people but they are all but gone, another generation or two and racism as a concept will be dead in my opinion. People will still insult each other and "racist terms" may be used in the heat of the moment but there will be no real race hatred. The new technological and informed world is just not the same as the old fashioned racist breeding ground it once was.

If there is one race who I think get rough treatment, its Muslims, because of the way they are portrayed as insane terrorists in western media and there is still alot of people who have not woken up to the sham, but as I say, another generation or two and everyone will know the truth.

Obviously there will be hardcore groups in every race but over time they will get smaller and smaller and racism will eventually die, simple fact of natural selection and human progression.

This post has nothing to do with me being banned for racism last week or whenever it was, the john terry/anton ferdinand fiasco got me thinking.

What do you lot think? Am I being a bit naive? If I am its only because I cant understand a hatred for a certain race....

The Chinese do not give the word Chink any power and are subject to casual racism all the time, they simply don t care... If you are dumb enough to get angry at being called a Honky ,Paki or Wog then it is your own problem

My friend Rommel runs an Indian newsagents in Soho, nothing is priced and he openly admits that the price is dependent on the customer, crack heads and norms pay standard. Rich looking fruits and tourists can pay up to double the price for a can of Coke and a packet of gum......

Racism is alive and well in Britain and to think otherwise is not only naive, it is burying your head in the sand. Not all racists are of white ethnicity and perhaps non white racists get an easy ride of it in the press but that should not deter anyone from digging people up for using racist language or insults.

Racism will never die because it has existed since man first walked the earth.

ps Muslims are not a race.

This was not racially motivated, it was turned into a racial thing by oldies who work in the news and papers with old views like yourself.

If I remember correctly this was over baldy getting bottled at a dancing, revenge attack.

You do know a lot of Muslims are white eddie?

Anyway, you may find this of interest.

Racism was once defined as "prejudice plus power" - a definition which, in a British context, has tended to exclude all but the white population. However, the "racist murders" of Kriss Donald in Glasgow in 2004 and Ross Parker in Peterborough in 2001, young white men killed by Asians, demonstrate how society has been forced to redefine racism.

It was, of course, the murder of a young black man, Stephen Lawrence, which changed the debate about race crime in Britain. The inquiry which followed redefined a racist incident as any "which is perceived to be racist by the victim or any other person". It is, therefore, a largely subjective crime - and one which has proved extremely difficult to prove beyond reasonable doubt.

The statistics reflect that subjectivity, but they also reflect a belief right across the spectrum in multicultural Britain, that people are attacked because of the colour of their skin.
Until the mid-nineties, the government's British Crime Survey only asked ethnic minority groups whether they had been the victim of a crime which was racially motivated. Since then, all victims are asked and the picture has changed dramatically.

The most recent analysis shows that in 2004, 87,000 people from black or minority ethnic communities (BME) said they had been a victim of a racially motivated crime. In the same period, 92,000 white people said they had also fallen victim.

Focusing on violent racial attacks, 49,000 BME were victims. Among whites, the number was 77,000.
Of those that involved wounding 4,000 were BME. Among the white population it was 20,000.
The numbers can be highly misleading, though. Since about 90% of people in Britain are white, the statistics actually show the risk of being a victim of race crime is significantly greater if you are from an ethnic minority. According to the most recent Home Office analysis, the chances for a white person is less than 1%. For Black and Asian people it is put at about 1%.

Taking into account the subjective nature of the statistics, it seems that the risks are relatively low across all communities. Nevertheless, for the tens of thousands of white people affected by race crime, the issue is a real one.

The far right has tried to exploit what it claims is the untold story of racial attacks on white people. On the National Front website they feature a long list of "The Fallen", white people they say were killed by non-whites. Often, however, the crimes have nothing to do with race and in a number of cases, for instance Ross Parker, relatives of the victims have objected to their names being used. Trying to unravel the motivation behind a crime is always difficult. Was a kick or a punch in a violent robbery any harder because of the victim's skin colour?

Describing an incident as racist may say as much about a victim's mindset as the offender. How else can one explain the British Crime Survey finding that 3,100 car thefts from Asians were deemed to be racially motivated? Most of the offenders (57%) in the racially motivated crimes identified in the British Crime Survey are not white. White victims said 82% of offenders were not white.

Among black victims of race crime, a quarter of offenders were identified as not white. Among Asian victims, the non-white proportion rises to a third. There has been an increase in recorded instances of race crime, but experts believe this is due to more people coming forward to report incidents and a greater willingness from the police to take accusations seriously.

The British Crime Survey tells a different story. The most recent figures suggest the incidence of race crime is falling - a drop of 13% year on year. Amid this soup of subjective and contradictory statistics, what is clear is that race crime is no longer a black and white issue. It is as complex and multifaceted as the communities in which it occurs.

Racism, prejudice and bigotry are not defined by the colour of someone's skin.

Do you consider the term "paki" racist? I gew up saying stuff like "just going to the pakis" in reference to going to the shop all the time and there was never any racist intent in it. It just seemed sort of common place to say.

The same way i used to say a "black mans pinch" again there was no horrible intent when i used it, it just seemed socially acceptable to do so

I use the more politically correct "blood blister" now, especially when im around one particular mates company

the problem with the racism debate is who defines it and what the motivation is behind the definition.

for example w were talking about the police yesterday, who were labelled institutionally racist after lawrence etc.
I personally thought this was a cop out (no pun intended). Truth is probably closer to them being gits generally.

Interesting thing was that some of those that got sentenced over the cartoon protests had charges of racism against them
