We have seen spurs fans accused of being anti semetic for calling ourselves "yiddos" in a positive way and have even been told that it has caused fascists supporters in Europe to attack spurs fans. We have seen England fans being accused of being racist for singing anti ferdinand songs. Rio ferdinand has been accused of racism for retweeting a comment about Ashley cole being a choc ice. These have all been discussed along with the suarez affair and the John Terry trial so I ain't trying to reopen those discussions. But why are none of the anti racist groups and the authorities kicking off about Dicanio? (excuse spelling) The man is a self confessed supporter of fascism so why is he only considered a little eccentric rather than a fascist ****? Fascism led to the Holocaust and the second world war...how anyone can be a fascist is beyond me ... how football can ignore it beggars belief. I've never had an issue with sunderland but I really hope they crash and burn...I honestly can not believe they have given this nazi **** a job
Football has no conscience. Although it's prepared to make moral judgements on the actions of fans (and rightfully so,) if you are of use to a club as a player or a manager these values pretty much fly out the window. If Suarez, Terry, or indeed Rio Ferdinand, did any other job they would be dismissed and would struggle to find employment. If they were fans, they would receive lifetime bans from their respective clubs. The Di Canio situation is the latest case of a long tradition of fans being told "you don't understand unless you are IN the game" or the lad's meaning was "lost in translation," or some other lame excuse for the same rules that apply to society at large not applying to the select few. A decent player, Di Canio, (could have been a great one if he played for a bigger club,) but also a believer in a doctrine that all but destroyed Europe, bankrupted our country, and cost countless military and civilian lives to defeat. One that the vast majority of us find completely unacceptable. The board at Sunderland don't care though. They think he can do a job and keep them in the Prem in this crucial year. Cue the Sunderland PR machine frantically looking for ethnic minorities that the club can "help" With photo opportunities for Paolo, obviously. That's football for you. Sometimes it just makes you sick.
I wonder if the rumours are true about the Mackems adopting an all black shirt for next season and changing their emblem to this: please log in to view this image They can get Hugo Boss to do their kits.
Di Canio somehow escaped the wrath of Lord Ouseley and Piara Powar(FARE)when he referred to a Swindon player during training by his skin colour rather than by his name, considering his club apologised for his use of 'inappropriate' comments(proving/accepting his guilt)the Football League and the FA jointly accepted the apology and took no further action at a time when the Suarez/Terry cases were still fresh. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18245752 Given that Di Canio openly admits to being a fascist and also an admirer of the mass murderer Mussolini(he even got a tattoo of his name)he also admitted to being an admirer of Lazio's ultras responsible for the stabbings of English supporters and making racist chants and banners. http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/di-canios-racistlink-exposed-6317239.html It's a sick joke that hes lauded in this country by the press, the Beeb even gave him his own weekly web article.
Not exactly. He's got a tattoo that says DUX on his upper arm, which is a reference to Mussolini, Il Duce. He claims that his idol's deeply misunderstood and that he's "basically a very principled, ethical individual".
It's why I am always in two minds about race legislation. The racists in South Africa, Australia or the USA who comanded racist policies in those countries in recent times have not become enlightened civilised human beings they have just been 'shut up'. It's always there either overtly or just below the surface, maybe it's better if we know who these animals are.
'a believer in a doctrine that all but destroyed Europe, bankrupted our country, and cost countless military and civilian lives to defeat. One that the vast majority of us find completely unacceptable.' Frightening to think that this was a doctrine that was so well entrenched in parts of our own Establishment (indeed including senior politicians, nobility and royalty) that we nearly acceded to the spread of this hateful ideology.....
You must be a journalist, you know, the profession of those who hacked the phone of a murdered teenager, the same people who you believe are telling it as it is.
Apparently the Durham miners, who have lent some form of support to the club in the past, have now withdrawn it. They obviously feel strongly about di Canio's allegiances. Personally, I wouldn't judge him too harshly. Most footballers are thick and tend to find politics too challenging for them. Unwittingly, they can be seen as standard bearers for political causes, when they are totally ignorant of the fact themselves. We see it often with the pro or anti- republican movement in Ireland. People can be brought up to salute a flag without having any idea what it stands for. Di Canio was close friends with black players at West Ham and has embraced a multicultural society such as ours by living and working here for many years. The way he lives his life doesn't portray him as a fascist.
Thanks for applying some perspective to this. David Hopper the Durham Miners Association was the man who objected and was a little disingenious. The miners were in a Reserved Occupation as was my father. Anyone who was in direct production to the war effort were kept at home. The shipyard engineers up here built ships to keep the food coming, and the miners provided the fuel. So any reference to "hundreds of Durham miners losing their lives" was laying slightly false trails. Thanks again.
I must be a journalist, must I? How did you come by that? I can't think where I get my information The facial expression that says we are all born equal.
This article was written on Sunday morning...no one had said anything at the time...the storm kicked off on Sunday afternoon and went hyper on Monday. I am amazed by the defending of Dicanio on the Sunderland board and by the Sunderland Board which have reacted really badly. The man gave a Fascist salute at a football match; gave an interview in which he described himself as a "Fascist not a racist" (given as a footballer) and mentioned his admiration for Mussolini in his biography (written as a footballer). Then he ****ing complains cos journalists; politicians; community groups; Sunderland fans and local unions question these views? He whines about only caring about football? Then why the **** did he as a footballer draw attention to being a fascist supporter/liker/sympathiser? The idea of free speech is a joke...he has the right to it but everyone who opposes his views should shut the **** up? Fascism led to the Holocaust which killed 6 million Jewish people plus countless numbers of disabled; trade unionists; gypsies; socialists; dissidents; Johava Witnesses etc. and Mussolini evicted many of these groups out of Italy and ultimately into the hands of Hitler's Nazi's. This is why people are so ****ed off So the media hacked phones and behaved scummily so EVERY thing they do is wrong now? **** me...you preach perspective and forgiveness for him but show none for any one who disagrees with his scummy view of fascism. His statement today suggests he has either changed his mind and no longer thinks nazi salutes are an ok way to celebrate or he is trying to say the right thing...either way he has only done this cos of those protesting at his appointment. Personally I would accept him saying "those are no longer my opinions, I was wrong" - as he aint said this I can only assume he is going through the motions so like I said I hope Sunderland crash and burn under him.
And? so what? he ain't a fascist?????? he didn't give a nazi salute????? Would you claim the Yorkshire ripper wasn't a woman hating rapist cos he had a wife?
