    Two peas in a pod.

Right under the nose of Mr UEFA aka Platini.

Let's see if he shows the footballing world what the 'respect' campaign is all about.

Personally I think he will probably phone John Terry for advice on how to dodge such claims.

Scum behaviour against Defoe,Lennon and Townsend...makes me sick.

Was disgusting, glad our fans started chanting Defoe's name when they done the monkey gestures. No place for that, not just in football.

UEFA will surely fine them for this.

What will a fine do SOS?

The club pays that... The racists still get to attend the games.

Dock the club points, hurt them where it matters..then the club might sort their fans out..but 'NO' Mr Platini and his Respect campaign is nothing but a token gesture...let's see if I'm proved wrong with my cynical view on those who run the game.

Duty calls, will no doubt see you later hovering the board SOS <ok>

Oh believe me I hope the fans are punished but I just don't see UEFA doing anything to them. I'd love to see action such as points docking or making Lazio play in closed atmospheres for a number of games, I just can't see it happening, especially while Platini remains at the helm.

    Yep, speak soon pal <ok>

Shouldn't the "Italians" bit be "Lazio fans"?

Not many other italian clubs do that sort of stuff.

Personally, I'd have them thrown out of the competition. Maybe that sounds harsh, but it seems to be the only way that these idiots will understand that their behaviour will have serious consequences. Fining the club will not hurt those "fans" responsible - only the club. Not having any more European football nights to look forward to will hopefully get a message through to these morons. Yes, it's hard on the club also, but I can't think of any other practical way of getting rid of this problem.

So, at least in terms of what the average football fan expects from UEFA, we won't be disappointed then?

Didn't Balotelli get racially abused by his own fans on international duty?

As for punishment, fines are useless on their own, couple them with a 2 year suspended ban from European competitions. If they can't go 2 years without another incident of racist chanting by so many of their crowd then they don't get to play in Europe.

I agree YV that UEFA need to hit these ****s harder, but docking points is very harsh and a dangerous thing to do. It's not the club's fault and not the fans who aren't actually racist's fault either. Life bans need to start being put out, more stewards keeping an eye on it too.

It would've been difficult to hand out lifetime bans because so many of them did it last night. It's the club's fault because they're handing out the tickets to their members. Does anyone really think that's the first time any of those fans had made those noises at a match? If they're prepared to overlook their chants in home matches, they're culpable for their behaviour in away matches. Thinking about it now though, forcing them to play their next home match behind closed doors would arguably make the most sense. It hits the fans, the club's pockets and sends a message that it's taken seriously.

Yeah, more definitely needs to be done but still docking points is a tricky business. Not fair on fans who are well behaved and don't chant ignorantly.

It's because they are fairly confident that UEFA will either, do nothing, or will only act only once forced to do so. And then the penalty is usually derisory.

Play the away game in an empty stadium.

They will lose the gate receipts and all the money fans spend on match day plus it will take away a bit of the home advantage.

Come on Spurlock, it was a tad harsh to label all Italians as racist. Their clubs' 'ultras' are the main culprits.

He didn't actually say all Italians were racist. I think you'll find some have inferred that

    No need to be pedantic.

It's not as though I create a thread every week Italian bashing...you could quite simply have tackled the core subject but decided to have a little dig at my character indirectly...I can't be ****ing arsed with that everytime.

We are in the same boat Drogs, racists need to go!

Sorry for my initial outburst and I pods really annoy me.
