Today is 11th., September. I'd just like to say R.I.P. to ALL innocent victims ( not just of the twin towers ) Can anybody show any justification for murder of innocent people ? This includes children such as in the C4 program a few days ago about child adoption / Pakistan - where new born babies ( usually ) girls are choked to death at birth and thrown away in plastic bags. How can we behave in this manner and call ourselves civilised?
Sad day.. My thoughts are with anyone who has lost someone as a result of the actions of a few on 9/11.... It been a sad 10 years, I just hope we all start to move on a little wiser in the next 10.
RIP to all those innocent people who lost their lives in a cowardly attack!! Also RIP to all those who have died in the defence of our country and our freedoms. We will not forget.
As much of a spectacular show of terrorism which 9/11 was, it still ranks fairly low on the list of horrific things which have happened to humanity in the last 10 years, such as several hundred thousand people dying in Tsunamis and Earthquakes in Asia or the thousands of people who have died in the recent 'Arab Spring'. I'm not against a relative outpouring of grief for what was no doubt a terrible tragedy, I'm just confused as to why it seems to prevail over much larger human tragedies and have so many unconnected people come out with public shows of grief. The fact it happened live on television in such a spectacular fashion obviously has an affect on people, but I have a feeling that the fact that it happened to rich white people rather than poor brown people also had a bearing on the popular western conscience. Either way, for me the outpouring of disproportional grief doesn't show the good of humanity, it shows how easily humans are influenced by media hype - or even worse care more about American civilians than those of Syria or the Gaza strip, who have recently seen similar numbers (to 9/11) killed by military attacks on innocent civilians.
I get you point there Mick. But 9/11 does not just evoke the grief for the loss of life, it also evokes the anger and hatred against the people who did it. With the Earthquakes and Tsunamis people grieve but we understand that whilst it is horrific, there was nothing that could be done about it. It may sound harsh but its the truth.
The closer the connections the easier it is to relate to. We are dominated by America, politically, socially, culturally and economically. Some of the people who died that day were British. We are and have been allies of America going back decades. American history is dominated by British and Irish influences. It's no surprise that the outpouring of grief, justified or not, is greater when it is something we can easily relate to rather than a disaster that happens in a country with which we have little day to day connection.
Let us take this day to realise that we are owned by the neo facist state of the USA. We are in their debt and must help them strive to destroy the worlds economies, in order to instal their "democracy" which is basically having a choice to elect your dictator
It's a point which I agree has an affect on people, but the 2,500 innocent people killed in Syria alone in the last few months almost equates to the death toll of 9/11 - and although there has been considerable press coverage you can bet there won't be a 10 year memorial held outside the likes of Belfast City hall in 2021 to the Syrians who were killed by extremist madmen.
Mny lives should be remebered because of this 9/11 attack, not just the 3000 that dies that day, but also the 100-200,000 innocent people who have died in iraq, who had nothing to do with any of this
Well yes it does appear that people seem to care more about dead Americans than dead Palestinians or Syrians or Indonesians for some of the reasons you have stated. I think that's my point.
Yep And they expect people to feel sorry for them? fu....ck off and fu...ck whoever gives a sh...it about 9/11 aswell
i DONT KNOW WHY WE ARE SAD, THE USA ALLOWED THEIR BUILDINGS TO BE ATTACKED, I DO FEEL SORRY FOR THE UNWITTING PEOPLE IN THE BUILDINGS AND THAT THEIR OWN COUNTRY ALLOWED THEM TO DIE
As I said, we have more in common with America than we do with the likes of Syria so it's no surprise. Distance, time, culture, connectedness, language etc. all play a big part on how we react to a situation such as a disaster.
What people sometimes overlook is that Muslims also died in the tragedy. There is aprogramme on tonight about the innocent children who lost parents. What a ****ed up world.
