Once a proud club that prided itself on playing attractive and attacking football, something their sides in the 60s and 80s were renowned for. Especially the double winning side of 1961. But what we saw today was an embarrassment. Spurs have often come to the Bridge before and parked the bus. Jacques Santini's side was very good at it, but in the first half they were reminiscent of a tortoise afraid to come out of its shell. As RDM says it is hard to play teams that won't play football. I expected more from the side that plays "the most attractive football". Anyway I just hope the traffic wardens were vigilant in issuing the parking fine for the Spurs team bus that was parked in front of the goal line today. Monday-Saturday 7pm-7pm Residents only From a Chelsea point of view it was disappointing, the players seemed to forget we were not playing a true North London club like Arsenal that are not afraid to play and underestimated how negative Spurs would be as they usually are at SW6. We should have performed much better and it was disappointing that the players seemed only focused on Tuesday. Spurs played their very best but could not beat a poor Chelsea side that had their minds elsewhere. All we can do now is focus on our FA Cup Semi Final with Bolton and CL QF with Benfica, currently they are far more important than any league game. Only way to get in the CL now is to win it. COYB! Let's grab a cup and look forward to next season where we can rebuild
I thought Spurs deserved to win today - far more clear chances. They didn't go all out, but did enough to deserve 3 points. It's looking more like a CL win is Chelsea's last hope of being in the CL next year, but you never know.
I agree, unfortunately. Top four looks sealed now, Spuds did what they had to do and I can't see us coming away from the Emirates with 3 points.
This coming from a fan of a club that have failed to beat us home or away this season If the game had been Chelsea laying siege to our goal and us getting a lucky point then I may have agreed with 1 or 2 of your points but Chelsea didn't. Spurs got the best chances and, had our finishing been better, you'd have been writing this thread off the back of a home loss.
Chelsea --I'm sorry to say looked hopeless today! We were embarrassing. I want RDM to get our lot to watch the replay a dozen times--and let the culprits own up to their failure! If they are decent blokes they would give their wages back to the club or to charity! New manager Roman with lots of new players, please!
Agree Jayram. In the 2nd half they looked the better team. I'm just relieved our record against them is still intact To have not beaten a club they are supposedly much bigger than on their own ground (in all comps) for over 22 years is nothing short of embarrassing.
You can't use logic with Spurs fans. The fact is they were better today and we were better at WHL. These days there is nothing in it between the two sides. I'd gladly take a draw if it means progression in the FA Cup
This was a game neither side wanted to lose and it showed. I'm hoping we meet again in the fa cup and that Lennon is back so we can actually play how we play best
Logic???????? You claim we parked the bus yet we had 19 attempts on goal .... that's more than you. we had more attempts on target and off target than you. we had more possession than you and we had the better chances....we didn't 'deserve' to win cos we failed to score but how the **** did we park the bus ???
50-50 we should have won at three point lane and they should have won here. This is a poor Chelsea side this year which just shows how Spurs haven't really improved but have been their usual selves and have bottled every chance to be London's top club.
Three point lane? When was the last time you won at our place? I make it 2 draws and 3 losses in the last 5 yrs which makes it 0.4 pts per visit to whl...not quite so catchy is it? But hey ho....why let facts spoil your inane ramblings
Spot on. The old guard had ,what ,7 reps today?? Cech, Terry, Boswinga, Lampard, Cole (shudder ) Essien and Drogba. If any further proof is needed that they are 1 game a week players now, that was it, ( Cech and possibly Terry excluded ) Forget the Napoli game and the fact they played so well, they CAN'T do it game after game. Nearly time to accept 5th place this year and start to play some youngsters. Let's see what they've got, we might find we need to buy fewer players if 1 or 2 come good. Literally couldn't be worse than todays team.
Would only add that the rebuilding DL speaks about should've happened last summer as we all know. Adding Mata was a good move but bringing in Meireles and not getting rid of the shyte has cost us dearly. Bringing in younger players then loaning them straight back out again is all well & good but radical changes needed to be made last summer.
We played the same system as Chelsea only we played it better. Our team cost about the same as one of the players on Chelsea's bench. Ginger Marks reckons this is a poor Chelsea team - how so given how much has been spent on it? We also had five England internationals out injured. Astonishing that the OP can come to the conclusion that Spurs were an embarrassment.
