Just heard it. Not many of the 1966 heroes left now. Just Bobby Charlton and Sir Geoff Hurst ? RIP Roger
4 or was it 5 had dementia [ blamed on heading the ball ] So glad I saw that game …… in my uncles bar in Dundee [ only " non scot was my wife WELSH/ENGLISH ] every goal scored was cheered and bar was rammed …. it was if they Scotland, had won the cup!
Jack Charlton certainly had Dementia issues come the end. Nobby Styles, Martin Peters and Ray Wilson suffered from Alzheimers before their deaths and it's long been rumoured that Bobby Charlton now has Dementia too. So of that great never to be forgotten team of 11 heroes there is only George Cohen, Bobby Charlton and Sir Geoff Hurst left now.
I remember that day in 1966 as if it were yesterday and I only wish that smart phones were available at that time because all of the players were about 30 yards from me with the World Cup. Roger Hunt was always the quiet man but his contributions to the team in 66 were just the tip of the iceberg when it came to his overall impact on the game of football. My thoughts go out to his family and friends at this difficult time. R.I.P. Roger.
Just a simple thankyou to Roger Hunt, sympathy to his family and friends, from an old codger to Roger R.I.P
RIP Roger Hunt a beast of a striker always gave 100%, with Jimmy Greaves not fully fit in 1966, he proved the perfect foil for Geoff Hurst.
