Sorry if mentioned elsewhere but former Saints defender Jon Gittens has passed away aged 55.

It probably has been posted elsewhere as I saw it on newsnow and he passed away on the 10th .

I remember him fondly from my childhood at the Dell. Very sad.

Sad news at such an early age? I do remember Jon as a bit player that never really established himself in the first team, but nevertheless I believe he was a good honest pro. and a very decent man from what I heard. RIP

I was just thinking he was the third former Saints defender in the last 8 years or so along with Dean Richards and Kevin Moore that died too young may they all rest in peace

Although Jon Gitten's two spells at Southampton were relatively brief, I am a bit surprised that there has been so little comment regarding his involvement in the non-league game where his impact was significant at clubs like Team Solent and Blackfield & Langley. Like many ex-pros, Gittens brought his expertise to the non-league and he was particularly respected in Hampshire having also been associated with Fareham Town.
