Why does the club go oversees for preseason training? Seeing as we are supposedly cash strapped it’s seems wasteful to be spending money taking the players and staff away. I would understand it if it was for necessary warm weather training but its just as warm in the uk. Could it be for player bonding? No new players so no need to do any bonding they should all know each other by now. Could it be to give the players a break? They’ve just had 6 weeks off so should be fresh. Couldn’t the money spent on this trip have been used elsewhere within the club and the players trained at Harlington.
The squad is bonding - with a new coaching team. Being away from home adds hugely to the instensity, no distractions. Who knows, perhaps McClaren is training them to play in an entirely new shape. If we couldn’t afford it (it won’t cost what a decent new player would) we wouldn’t be there, and I don’t think the club can be expected to forecast the weather in the UK at the time of organising.
At least they are not going in school holidays otherwise price would have doubled! So let them enjoy it or probably not training!
He is, I heard John Eustace ( assistant manager ) mention yesterday that the trip gives McClaren a chance to get his way of playing across and that the players know and understand their jobs.
