Pretend you're Ellis Short and have invested a sizeable sum of money with a disappointing result. The manager was recently awarded an extended contract, the season has fizzled out and there is unrest among the customers (he reads not 606).
Do you invest further large sums of money to pursue a dream that you have only recently bought into or do you rely on your business acumen and decide all is not right.
Your top man is an affable guy but with little business experience of running an enterprise like your investment . The perceived wisdom in the market place is that hiring and firing managers is not a good thing but you need to send a strong message.
What is your next move? Throw more money at the problem? Sell your investment? Make a change?
    I'm betting on the latter.

remember, Short is American, he would have knew very little about the game before he came to us, and he probably knows just a little bit more now, and probably nothing about how good/bad other managers are, he probably needs quinn just as much as quinn needs short tbh.

For me though, he has to put more money in, and i am not talking Man City type cash here, maybe not even £50million like some seem to suggest. something like 25-30 million will do, and we still have players we could move on, and if we can get 3.5 million for whitehead, then expect some eye rasing sums to come in for some of our players.

I think henderson will go, not for 20 million though, maybe 8-10 million, Anton will go for about 5 million, Riveros for 2-3 million, Angelari for 1-2 million, so there is 20 million there recouped if we get my valuation at top whack. so thats 50 million to spend if Short puts his hand in his pocket (which i hope i am wrong but i am still doubtful he will tbh we will sell 20 million and Bruce will get 25 million, as per usual).

I think Quinn will back Bruce, but Short is a different matter. I think Short is deliberately staying away till the end of the season to let Bruce either save or hang himself.

I don't think Quinn himself is much of an issue. His job is running the entire SAFC operation, not just the first team. He's always said that is the manager's area. A lot of what he does is public relations, and you could hardly find better at that than Niall Quinn. There's hardly anyone in Britain got a bad word for the man.

For international relations, marketing, etc., we have an ex-Foreign Minister. And how many clubs have that sort of clout/access abroad?

I'd gamble that Short will keep Quinn and Milliband. Bruce? - Sadly a penny for your thoughts doesn't get you far in the world of multi-billionaires. But I'd guess even if he gives Bruce one more year, it will be ONE. After today, I'd say they'd BETTER win next week.

It will be very interesting to hear the reaction of the board following next weeks match if things don't go our way. Their recent silence has been deafening, with not even the dreaded 'vote of confidence' coming from the boardroom.

We do need more investment but I am now questioning whether that should be for Bruce now. I'm of the opinion he is tainted as manager and the bad taste it has left me this season will take some shifting. As for Quinny, for the first time I am beginning to suspect he isnt adding anything more than he already has thus far and that if he left, maybe a more professional hard edge would be brought to the club. Top clubs are run with the head not the heart and I regretfully think Quinny is leading with his heart and not his head, as Bruce would surely have been sacked 6 or 8 weeks ago by ANY other club in the top flight, for his hapless record since January. Injuries or not, the results and performances have been disgraceful.

Bruce is becoming the excuse King and its the same old ****e ones every week. Week after week.

Note to self Steve, YOUR THE ****ING MANAGER SO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT YOU TWAT.

To Cest & Bobby no faith in SQN suppose you'd rather have Cowie back! Get a ****ing grip. I'm starting to really get fed up how every thread is being hijacked by the Bruce Out Posse, now starting on the best thing to happen to this club in recent history your having a laugh. Used to enjoy coming on this board for the craic but I know things have been **** this second half of the season but to me that's part of been SAFC supporters the highs and lows. Who the **** do you think we are Man U or something. As an old fanzine used to say it's the hope I can't stand.

Firstly get your abbreviations correct before taking the moral high ground and blathering on like a tit? SQN? SNQ you mean?

How can anything this season be described as the best thing to happen in recent history? We have spent a kings ransom and taken until the 2nd off last game to avoid relegation struggling. We have won 2 games in 15 (losing 12 of them btw) since Jan and been humiliated at home by some of the worst football teams I have seen in a generation. I have seen Bruce almost with one move (ably supported and backed by Quinny) almost bring this club crashing down around that new found optimism you speak of. Bent should not have been sold without adequate replacements been found. Clubs that have owners, chairman and managers that gamble thus will ultimately come crashing down and burn. No, we are not Man Utd and its precisely for that reason we couldn't afford to let a 25 goal a season player leave without replacing him, especially when the rest of our team couldn't score in a brothel with £50 notes dangling off their cocks.

No one is advocating Quinny to go but he has to take some responsibility for backing a failure of a manager in the second half of the season (2 years running at SAFC and 2 years running before that with Wigan and Birmingham). Bruce has had more money to spend on wages and transfers than any other manager and yet our home form this season is one of the worst in recent memory. We are easy to beat, easy to play against and far to easy to work out. We concede too easily and cant score to save our lives. We have nearly been relegated 2 years running under Bruce and if you think that's progress pal, you need to sit down in a darkened room and have a doctor look at your head.

You may like to say its all about 'being a Sunderland fan' that we are ****e year after year but for me, I am ****ing sick of failing decade after decade and under Bruce, I see nothing to suggest that failure will end any time soon. You carry on enjoying the failure but dont expect those with higher ambitions just to sit back and be shafted up the jacksie in the mean time.

I don't want failure for this club I want the best for it. IMO I think that Bruce needs to be given time 2 seasons in my opinion is not enough time, as to Bent he wasn't happy at the club and wasn't playing well I agree that a replacement needed to br brought in and that has been part of the problem along with a really bad run of injuries. As to our recent history I'm talking about where he has brought the club which in my opinion is a club that is moving forward and is now a Premier club and not a yo-yo club like we have been.

Its catch 22 for Elliss as far as money goes, if he believes Bruce is the right man he has to give him the money to prove it, if Bruce fails then Ellis i believe he will sell the club so next year is going to be very interesting.
If he has any doubts he has to find somebody else now
Im not sure i agree about Henderson but i think Bruce has got money for players that were not good enough i.e Murphy leadbitter Whitehead etc.
Ill go along with we need about 25 million at least

So because we disagree with your opinion we are not "real supporters"? Why did we only have 12 fit team players in training? Answer: From SB's own mouth, "We have to take a look at the training methods, because something is not right for this many players to be getting injured", it's not all about "bad luck".

Finally, because I don't think that SB is up to the job anymore, that does not mean I am a "hater" of him. I actually like the man, but think he has taken the club as far as he can.
