There's a tendancy for people to want us to sign all the players we want now. However if you do that at this stage you are likley to have to pay over the top both in terms of transfer fees and wages (not to mention signing on fees and agents fees etc).
Last season we did not have a crestive midfield player - at least one that could cocnsistently play in a four man midfield - DM obviously thinks Killkenny can't (and I agree). So he has signed Jody Morris - a player with a chequered past, but one who seems to have settled down and did the business on the pitch for DM at St Johnstone. A player he knows. This will give us more creativity and also leadership on the pitch (something else severely lacking at times last year, especially when Louis was injured)
Left back was a problem position for us - Macca probably over the hill for the Championship (especially when contending with injury) and McGivern simply not good enough. So we have signed Greg Cunningham - someone who has impressed other fans on loan spells at their clubs - is young so will improve - this is a very good signing (and better value than someone like DIxon who is unproven at this level and who Huddersfield are paying over the odds for)
So 2 in so far - we still need a right sided centre half. The club have made a bid for Keogh, that much we know - everythng else is speculation. The Keogh deal is still up in the air.
We need a pacy striker and another keeper (would love to see someone who will come as No1)
So DM is quietly going about his business - he's rebuilding our squad by evolution without paying stupid money - we may not be in the Top 6 this year, but I think progress is being made.

We have been linked with every Scottish player available. Del buys someone none of us heard any rumours about. It shows he likes to do things quietly.

I still believe we will soon sell a few that might shock us to be letting them go. But I trust the manager to do what he thinks is best for City. We all want new players but I don't want a massive squad crippling our finances further.

Both players that he signed came out of the blue for the media. Clearly shows he keeps his cards close to his chest.

When you are building a house you don't just throw them all together and expect good results. Selecting the best bricks, based on their individual effectiveness towards the integrity of the structure, will always achieve better results.

Derek is doing the rebuild of Bristol City with an apparently methodical system that will allow him to make minor adjustments as and when required. The previous methods of trying to improve our lot in life seemed to be based on the premise that if you bring in a huge load of sh** and throw it at the fans they might believe that enough of it will stick to change things. WRONG!

For the first time in many seasons I say to myself that our new man actually understands what he has to do to bring us back to some kind of respectability. The proof, as they say, is in the pudding but trust DM to get the mix right in the not too distant future and everything will turn out right. Trust is the only answer.

Thanks smhbcfc and let's hope I'm right so that we can all have a heart-attack free season for once. Like a lot of people on this site I questioned somewhat DM's appointment and yet when I went searching for some serious info on the guy I began to like what I saw. Yes we had a season where we almost went down but he proved we are made of sterner stuff and now we prepare for a refreshed way of life in the division where we belong. Good luck Derek and the boys.

I live 60+ miles from Bristol, so not many City fans down here - however, my mates are all impressed with what DM has done since he came to the club

Couldn't of said it better myself. Derek will do it, and it will make it easier if he has all of our backing and positivity
