Bit 606-ish I know but as things heat up, a quick look at the last six games for the bottom six clubs. (Home games shown in capitals.) Villa: Man U, SUNDERLAND, BOLTON, West Brom, TOTTENHAM, Norwich. Reckon they need little more than 6 points from this lot. Should do it though. Bolton: SWANSEA, Villa, Sunderland, TOTTENHAM, WEST BROM, Stoke. I can see 11 points in there for a right-thinking Bolton, can't you? QPR: SWANSEA, West Brom, TOTTENHAM, Chelsea, STOKE, Man City. We're really gonna need to pull up and maintain a winning mentality... starting tomorrow night! Blackburn: LIVERPOOL, Swansea, NORWICH, Tottenham, WIGAN, Chelsea. Edit: Losing at home to Liverpool likely to dampen spirits in the remaining games. Wigan: MAN U, Arsenal, Fulham, NEWCASTLE, Blackburn, WOLVES. Latics are going to need to show great character to get on top of this lot... Wolves: ARSENAL, Sunderland, MAN CITY, Swansea, EVERTON, Wigan. Glad I'm not a Wolves fan! Mark Hughes reckons 37 points should do it. Edit: Maybe he's right!!
It's looking more and more like a straight fight between us and Blackburn for the last spot. Bolton have a relatively easy run-in and Wigan's looks really tough. If we match Blackburn and avoid a thrashing at City then I think we'll be ok I think. Let's hope Blackburn start their last 6 with a defeat tonight. If they do lose tonight then 37 points to stay up will be about right I reckon.
That's IF Blackburn lose at home against a weakened Liverpool side tonight... If they win, I seriously reckon we need to be aiming for 39 or 40 points to stay in this league.
If it comes down to the last game of the season, I have more hope now that we could do something away at Citeh, given they'll hopefully have nothing to play for (having secured a Europe spot) and their players having all been told by their WAGs not to get injured before the go off to their exotic holiday homes for two months. It could come down to goal difference between us and Blackburn, so when Cisse comes back, he needs to whack in some goals (if he can bring himself to stay on the pitch long enough). If I was Sparky, I'd stand on the side of the pitch holding a pair of pliers and reminding his lordship what's gonna happen to his crown jewels if he gets another red
Good point about our Cisse Goldie, I'd forgotten about him and the chances of adding a hitman to our armoury in the last four games!
More by luck than judgement Brix, Liverpool were shocking! Still, 3 points tomorrow and you won't hear me complaining.
Also could be a hammer blow to Blackburn's confidence Brix. Huge result for us, especially the way it happened!
Bloody hell Brix. Just read this. Even after their defeat tonight I've got to say I couldn't see Blackburn getting 11 points from those games!!
You ain't wrong Col. Tbh, against 10 men, Blackburn certainly looked a pale shadow of their performance against Man Utd last week. Up against the ropes for sure!
They shouldn't get anything at swansea/spurs/chelsea...Norwich are a handful for any side, and it's a 6 pointer for Wigan. Starting to feel a little more confident
The boost they'd have had from a win tonight could well have set them on the way to another 8 points from their remaining games. Very doubtful now though!!
AS long as we win our next 2 i think we will be okay. I can see all the other teams dropping points and we just need to keep cool, keep 11 on the pitch and hopfully the R's will stay up.
I reckoned we needed 40 a round and a bit ago. Apart from our own result the other results have gone really well since then, and 37/38 may be enough, but we could still need 40. Bolton could get there, and Blackburn are good enough at their best to win all their remaining except Chelsea, with the form Spurs are in at the moment.
