So we've broken the record of finishing top at Christmas and not winning the league a few seasons ago. So has any team be in this situation now and fell to first or third? People keep saying our drop will happen but I can never remember a team go this far into a season and then suddenly explode. Just wondering if anyone can think of a season where a team gives up towards the end?
That's was earlier than this. Keegan's outburst was due to the pressure already getting to him, they started to fall apart after signing Asprilla in the February.
In terms of what a season we've had, if we were to lose the next three then that would show a unexplainable dip in form, due to not being able to handle the pressure, which is imploding. We need to remember what we've done this season, this is championship winning form, we've reached our targets by some distance.
True but losing the remaining six would still see us exceed expectation too. I guess it depends if you have a target at the start of the season and stick to it or you have a rolling expectation that can easily because too pessimistic or optimistic at any time. Also, if you're considering form then anything other than six wins will be an implode

With Man City and Chelsea to come to us, defeats could be acceptable. My target was top four, I always feel for Liverpool it should our target, we've reached that and based on how the team have performed since Fulham the team feels the target should be the title so I've jumped on that ship too.
It was always about challenging for top four IMO, that doesn't necessarily mean getting it. A season total of 71pts would have seen us challenge and in most seasons achieve that aim, it would have also seen a ten point improvement on last year. The fact we have that total with six games to spare is fantastic and I'd be willing to bet both my nuts that we don't lose all six remaining games
The overwhelming majority of football fans wrote us off as no better than 6th/7th at the start of the season. Even amongst Liverpool fans, 4th was seen as a wishful target but simply closing the gap would be good progress. I felt 4th was there given the huge changes at the clubs around us but perhaps scraped at the end of the season, not full blooded kicking the door down to get there. Whatever happens from now, we've more than reached our season's target - even BR said 4th for his third season, well this is his second. If we lose the next 6, we've still exceeded expectations set at the start of the year. Unfortunately, due to our great form, our goalposts have moved...
How can you say that with such certainty? From this position anything less than 3rd is failure, but that's only because your expectations evolve as the season progresses. 4th would still be good enough given our pre-season expectations, but we have the chance to go further and we should be looking at that now.
The aim has not changed. The objectives have however been revised - it's call Emergent Strategy. The AIM was always to win the title. By setting out to do that we could ensure that we were on track to achieve our Prime Objective - a top 4 finish. As things have developed 4th would be OK but would have a hint of failure now as 3rd has become the MINIMUM. BUT the Aim is still there until such times as it becomes impossible to achieve - this season! As 2gs1A says the amazing thing is that this has been done more quickly that Rodgers expected.
Right ok this is all fine and all that but it would be deeply unambitious now to say oh... Our target WAS... Sorry but from here it's the title Dave is right fsg said thier aim was to win, get to the top, Rodgers said the objective was top 4 It's like making a cost reduction, if you could save a million but had a target of 500k do you fail by only doing enough as really it would be failure So let's call a spade a spade, it's fear of failing that really drives any more talk of 4th 3rd is easily ours and with it group stage qualification, 2nd should be possible if we do well but 1st should be our new objective.... It will be suarez's and Gerard's after all
