I already know it's an embargo that's not really an embargo, but does anyone know what happens with it when you get promoted? It's a Football League imposed one for a breach of their rules rather than an FA imposed one, but when you get promoted you'll not be a member of the Football League any more. So has the PL said it will carry the conditions forward or does it just disappear as soon as you become classed as a Premiership club?
rumour has it that the FA are are going to make a fortune from the playoff final and if Watford win it they are going to refuse them premiership status and promote Holloway's Palace instead, not quite sure if that would go down to well on here. just joking
Not really sure mate, it's probably never happened before and has no precedent, so the idiots that run our game probably have no clue either. But I suspect if we go up, they will turn a blind eye to use signing some of our loan players on permanent contracts or bringing in new ones. Good question for a discussion to take our minds off of Wembley for a few hours - cheers
It is not an embargo - all we have to do is tell the FL about a transfer before we complete it and get their permission - it is for them to know that the money will go through the proper channels and not go to some thief's account first. Suspect the PL will not care one way or the other - worst comes to the worst we have a tight squad till 31st August
I can't see the PL having too much of a problem with it all. They will want the strongest, most competitive 'brand' as possible, so to let an under-strength Watford start the league wouldn't be good for business. They will say they have kept the embargo in place, we'll still submit the paperwork as before, and we will just sign the players we want. (Let's just get there first)
Given their oft stated fixation with cleaning up the sport you'd like to think that they would do that for all transfers as a matter of course really wouldn't you?!
Whatever happens lets hope we aren't waiting for weeks for them to make this issue clear..same with the loan situation. I suppose it depends if we go up or not - the Premier league will want our situation sorted ASAP so not to over-shadow their "product" whilst the Football league might be a bit stricter.
According to journalist Matt Slater of the BBC he thinks having that some members of the Football League panel want to enforce the embargo beyond dotting the i's and dotting the t's if that's the case we could have a troublesome summer. Lets hope the Football League won't have jurisdiction and we can move onwards and upwards.
Yes - but it is NOT an embargo - so they can't enforce it - they have to check we are doing it properly and that the money will go where it is supposed to - beyond that they have no power
People involved with rival clubs? If they don't want us to buy anyone then why not just say so...or tell us ASAP. Afterall whatever happens on the 27th we will want to think about getting players in soon afterwards.
I think the Football League wanted to make a proper example of us but the independent panel who made the decision did not give them scope to do this. There are many views on this and I cannot pretend to be in the know but so I guess we'll all have to just wait and see. An interesting time ahead whatever division we find ourselves in.
The questions you have to ask are: 1: would the football league/PL be looking to use this 'embargo' covertly to punish Watford's use of a loophole? Answer: I very much doubt they would have the stomach for the legal battle which would ensue; the Pozzos would provide a rather more robust challenge than a tinpot owner like Bassini. 2 Who wants to block this 'loophole' anyway? Answer: a couple of managers (led by Gollum) who can only see the very small picture of what's in front of them on match day. Plus a few bandwagon jumping journalists (take a bow Martin 'Jabba the Hutt' Samuels). The club chairmen (who ultimately make the decisions) will see another way that they too could run an attractive competitive football club without emptying their own bank accounts to fund the lifestyles of greedy players and agents. They won't want that route closed. We'll be fine.
Somebody on a Palace site suggested we might have a limited number of transfer - 5 as that is what happened when they got an embargo.
Mark, you haven't got an embargo, you can complete as many transfers as you like, you just need the FL's approval for each one, to make sure the money is going to the right place!
