Apparently Cardiff fans in one stand have been threatened with a 5 match ban if they don't sit down, the following is a statement by a supporters club rep. "He said: âWe are supporting the club in this instance. People have been given another area they can stand up in â itâs been risk-assessed â and thatâs in the Canton Stand" How the hell can a premier league club get away with risk assessing standing up, in an all seater stadium, as being OK yet the "Powers that be" won't allow rail seats or safe standing areas? smacks of hipocrisy to me. Don't even start me on the likes of Man Utd where standing behind the goals seems to be the done thing.
Love standing at the games. Sitting down is just wrong.... Cardiff are just a joke of a club so everything the do is to be laughed at, No matter how serious
Lads in the Eastend can [perhaps] give some real informed background to this as they met the council re standing at Ashton Gate. BCFC wanted fans sat down originally. Football stadiums are private premises, they have to adhere to football ground regulation, but clubs can make up their own rules. Standing isn't illegal, but a club can ban a fan for standing. Their house their rules. Manchester Utd years back risk assessed a stand with Trafford council. That was to force fans to sit by proving it was dangerous. It was hushed up when the independent assessor's said it was a safer to stand than rise, sit, rise sit etc. If the overwhelming majority want to stand e.g Eastend its a hardly a concern. If they don't e.g Cardiff in that stand? Its respectful not to. It is hypocritical in general because for years clubs and the FA have had polls, surveys after valid non biased polls, surveys which have told them fans want to stand, fans who don't stand want areas for fans who do. FA and big clubs know best, know best what you want and what's best for you .... Nothing to do with fans in seats get far charged more and are not those nasty working class types mind. Yours somebody who is sat with the family.
Lost count the amount of times the oiks behind me get told to sit down by stewards, but just become abusive when they are told. Every week it seems to be a new steward, and every week they get shouted down. I can see why people like to stand up, but I think it's been used in England largely to tame fans. I remember as a young boy stood at Plymouth at an away game, and for some reason, I was terrified, because the fans were arguing and even got violent. Tony Robinson was at that game stood a few steps behind me, and I lost my childhood image of him when he told some bloke to "f**k*n back off!". I don't see any danger to fans wanting to stand on a health and safety ground. Most german clubs make this work and with no recorded injuries. But I genuinely believe in England, the violent nature of some fans who let the side down, keeping them on their bottoms, is an attempt to curb their aggression. Conspiracy theorist that I am haha
.....shiny, that's really rich. Given who you support, you have no idea of what constitutes a "joke of a club".
I can't be bothered to go into a slanging match, You've come on to the Bristol City board, Your rivals. Don't expect us to be bigging you up. It's obvious the reason why I said what I did and most fans agree, You sold your soul etc wont bore you with it anymore because you've heard it a thousand times and more but that's the reason behind my club. We're jus **** at the moment.
Personally my own preference is to sit, but I think an experiment into the safe standing zones is worth persuing. I went to Elland Road a couple of seasons ago and the majority of City fans stood up for most of the game - this was fine by me because i just stood as well. However there was a very elderly couple next to me and they could not stand for the whole game, and therefore missed quite a bit of the action. A dedicated standing zone would help that.
I preferred to stand when I was younger, plus I couldn't afford to sit in the Dolman or Grandstand. I would still prefer to stand now overall but sitting is also ok. The crowd surges on the Kop at Liverpool (which was all standing back in the days before all seated stadiums) always looked really frightening
City have a safe standing zone off the backs of efforts of fans v everybody else. Its the Eastend. An experiment is a total waste of money if no thought is given to it. Put a block in the corner of the Atyeo and its a no go. As for the Dragons so what. Plastic club. Rather be in the fourth than have fans like that speaking as somebody who was there when City were that low.
I think there is room for both sitting and standing and it's about time those in charge got their act together and sorted it. It is my belief that the atmosphere at games has deteriorated since all seater stadia. People should have the choice.
I prefer to sit down. I've usually stood and walked around enough to get in, so I'm happy to have the seat there. I'll stand if others are standing, but obviously I'd feel like a bit of a dick if I'm stood up in front of someone sitting down. Personally, I think the atmosphere is fine in all-seater stadiums, and quite frankly I think a lot of the calls for standing are just nostalgia by older fans longing for the "good old days". That being said, if safely can be guaranteed then I think the choice should be offered.
Last post regarding atmosphere in all seater stadiums has to be a wind up. Stadiums are dead. Football culture has collapsed.
