1) why are modern shin pads the size of a postage stamp back in the 60's mine went from top of ankle/foot joint to just under the knee cap 2) why don't players wear ankle protectors 3) why so many foul throws, back leg raised off the floor have I missed another rule change 4) why do refs allow opposing players to stand within 10 yards of a free kick Lots more questions but that will do for now UTT
and why do footballers roll around as if they've been poleaxed for next to nothing - the Rervers player on Thursday dislocated his knee in the match and hardly battered and eyelid - bunch of southern softies
Most footballers whether southern or northern are not as tough as rugby players, saw the dislocation, think I've seen that a couple of times over the years and pretty sure a Hull FC player pushed it back into place himself and carried on.
Bobby McNeill was sent of for doing so (he’d already been booked) in front of Kempton in the infamous 3 2 win vs Derby when two down and down to ten men. Probably the best City atmosphere I remember at Boothferry Park.
Lazy refereeing - start booking players who refuse to stand back and then you'd see a change in where players stood
Fantastic game, fantastic comeback. Rivalled in atmosphere at BP by our 4-1 win over the blunts (think it was 82/83 season). 1-1 with 10 minutes to go then goals from Marwood (2) and Mutrie meant the South Stand was jumping continuously for the remainder of the game
Still got a scar on my ankle from jumping up and coming down at an awkward angle scraping it against the edge of the terracing after Mutrie’s goal. Poured with blood. That goal is still amongst my all time favourite City goals.
Great match. Memories also of the SU fans stoning us after the match. I hid behind a little old lady for safety as I was a wee child still.
