Just noticed while watching sky sports news that Aston villa are in the northern side of the draw and Birmingham are in the southern side, wonder how that works? :emoticon-0138-think

They're possibly both on the border and they had a choice, then decided to stay apart :emoticon-0112-wonde

If you divide England into north midlands and south by lines of latitude, Birmingham is in the south. (Manchester/Leeds are midlands, the north doesn’t start until York)

Its more to do with the number of teams than geography. There are more teams in the south, due to population density, so 'the north' has to come further south. You just have to look at the regionalisation of non-league. Cambridge City are in the Northern Premier League (Division One Midlands) but obviously Cambridge is not a northern city. Last season they were in the Isthmian League, which includes Dereham Town, which is further north than Cambridge.

Villa Park is further north than St Andrew’s.

The border is lower on the West side though, plus the country is wider in the South than the North, should it be divided into 3 equal areas?
